Google's Nexus One phone. Iphone competition?

If anyone has been paying attention. Google released their new Smartphone yesterday. Seems like a sweet phone and is def the closest thing to the IPhone to date.

Im at work so i have no links. But here's some quick spec comparrisons.

IPhone vs Nexus

Screen - 3.5" vs 3.7"
Price - $99-299 w/ 2yr contract at&t only, $599 w/ no contract vs $179 w/ 2 yr contract w/ tmobile. Verizon may pick it up and unlocked phones can be on at&t Edge network only
Monthly - $100 unl everyrhing vs $149.99 unl
Battery Life - 5 hours 3g talk 250 standby vs 7 hours 3g 250 standby
Camera - 3.15 mp vs 5 w/ 2x zoom, video, voice rec for text/email

100k apps vs 20000 apps

I dunno. Pretty cool i guess. The only major differences is the camera, carrier options and they say the web is faster on the Nexus along with a changable battery.

I'd pick it up if i felt like switching carriers. But with my plan i wouldnt pay much more than $100/mo anyway for an iphone when i upgrade in sept.

What do you guys think? I guess we'll see what happens

It'll be hard to top the iPhone. Not because I'm saying its better, its just the marketing is so good.

From what i'm hearing, the nexus has really nothing ground breaking. It desperately needs either multitouch (which i believe i CAN support, just doesnt have yet) or a hardware keyboard.

It has Android 2.1, but that's supposed to be released to other android phones within a few days.

But the OLED screen is pretty sweet.

yeah to me it seems like the screen, display, and speed of some stuff is a little faster but the IPhone has stuff on lockdown while having both quality and speed rather than just one or the other.

Most of the stuff the Nexus had is taken care of by apps on the IPhone. The only thing i havent kept up on is if they put a stop to jailbreaking them to do video/used other carriers? I doubt its been stopped completely but didnt they cripple it with an update.

I loved the IPhone when i had it despite the bill when money was tight some months, and at first i didnt miss it when i broke it, but lately i wish i had it because when you think about it, theres so much free ****, and having it at your fingertips in a phone can save your butt sometimes lol. That and the sync with itunes rocks.

The Nexus will let you load mp3s and some argue the sound quality will be bettwr but dont they take up more space than whatever file itunes are? I dunno about you guys but i dont give a crap about how music on my cellphone sounds lol.

but yeah i would like to read up on the Nexus. I only just saw it today in the NY Post which is where i got the side by side stats.

The screen blows away the iphone. No doubt about that. My droid blows away the iphone.

The processor is faster, but honestly, i doubt an average user would notice a gigantic difference.

Its got a microSD card for the media storage, so putting music on or off should be easy, simple drag and drop. I heard the speakers are alright, but nothing amazing, but if im listening to music from my phone, i have headphones anyways so it doesnt matter.

The look and feel of 2.1, imo, is nicer than the ipones layout. Just looks more up-to-date. More of a 3d feel.

However...t-mobile network kinda blows. If it was a verizon phone, that'd be sweet, but t-mobile and ATT are on the same level so that's a draw.

The android market is up to 20,000 apps, so more than likely you will find an app to do whatever you want and it'll probably be free, so that's becoming less of an advantage for the apple. Developing for android is also a much less pain in the neck as for the apple.

TMobile and AT&T on the same level? As far as what?

I don't want to start a service argument, but I don't get what people mean when they say AT&T service sucks...

my edge network internet on my iphone was just as fast as any other phone I ever tried, verizon, tmobile, sprint etc.

But regardless... different stroke for different folks of course. The media card is a good idea and I will agree that the IPhone looks a little predated... but who knows what will happen next. The Nexus looks cool so hopefully one of my friends will get it so I can compare since I'm naturally lopsided after already having an IPhone for a while. As far as the apps go. With so many apps out there, I'm pretty sure at some point, no matter what smart phone you have, you'll be happy lol. In reality, it's not even worth discussing but I wanted to bring it up anyways. Im an average user for sure, so the difference won't show to me so i'm probably talking out of my ass for the most part .. I just say it how I see it as Im sure you are too so its all good.

Im excited to hear people not on At&t stop complaining about not having a good smart phone lol

I stand by my jailbroken iPhone, no matter how many times I have to reboot it.

It doesn't have to be on T-Mobile's network.

true, although, if you choose to go with at&t with this device you lose 3G...that's a pretty big negative IMO.
