tilt-shift photography?

* Tilt-shift photography is a creative and unique type of photography in which the camera is manipulated so that a life-sized location or subject looks like a miniature-scale model.

came across this earlier, pretty unique stuff. even after looking at the 50 pictures they still seemed to be miniature models imo. then even watching the videos at the bottom, it still looks miniature scale. cool stuff tho.

So how exactly does this work? Its more then just blurring the top and bottom portions of the picture like the photoshop tutorial has you to believe, right?

I agree. While I like photoshop and realize it is a powerful tool for the digital photographer, sometimes it makes things TOO easy (if that makes sense). Sometimes it takes the skill out of the shot. Whereas I think it has it's place, and do not frown on it's use, I believe there is no substitute for skills. I'm always learning new ways to improve my shots in the camera, thus considerably minimizing my PP time.

All that being said, it is a cool technique. I like the way it plays tricks on the eyes.

Word, he does some amazingly cool stuff.

I love tilt-shift photography, especially looking down from buildings onto a city below, or from the air. It's pretty trendy now with wedding photographers too... can be overdone I guess but I dig it.

I would love a TS lens but it'd be a lot like buying a fisheye... cool, but I'd use it like never.

Yeah that would be one of the last lenses I ever bought and I'd have to be really rich haha. Awesome type of photography... but you really need to specialize in it for it to be worth its money.

Agreed...Canon's cheapest tilt-shift lens is almost a grand. IMO, unless you're making money from your photography, it's really not worth it.

I totally and completely agree with a few above, however, with the fact that you simply cannot replace proper photographic experience, technique, and skill.

just searched this looking for building photography, i dont understand, seems different than this. i thought tilt shift was to make wide angles undistorted?
and why the hell does this type of tilt shift make things look like scale models? kinda cool.

i think the blurryness is a bunch of crap, but i think its awesome that the buildings look like they are from a scale model railroad, so the perspective control lenses dont do this, only lensbabies?

A real "tilt-shift" photo is taken with a "tilt-shift" lens. a lens baby is similar in concept but very rudimentary.

Canon 24mmTSE lens.

There's a Russian-made 35mm/2.8 tilt/shift for F-mount for sale on FredMiranda. I know there's pretty much no reason for me to buy it but i want it.

The Canon 17 is some wild **** though. I want one.
(oops, just realized that's the 24, still an awesome lens.)
