i was looking a cyl heads for my 305 l69, trick flow makes a nice cheap pair of aluminum heads, complete except for rockers for like500. Those are reccomended in a few 305 builds, and i know this guy who used em in a lq4 305, full roller rockers, eddy performer, comp xe262, and its doin great, no dyno sheet yet though. And keep in mind its dished pistons on the weaker 305s and flattops on 305 h.o. and 305tpi. And 68cc chambers seems a bit much,58cc would keep compression up. Also 1900 dollars is alot for a top end kit without a cam, 1700 can buy you a 290hp 350 brand new crate engine. I would suggest a eddy performer or victor jr, for like 300, these trick flows for like 500, you can still keep your centerbolt valve covers. i have the link on my home computer. But yeah then get new rockers for under 100 probably, then you would still have alot leftover for a cam.

yea but i'd like to just build the 305 to be different. I don't have the money but i'm still researching on the motor and I'm finding some good stuff for it. I'm just seeing what you guys know about them. I have a 1979 chevy impala that i just got for my first car an I don't know if i really want to swap a 350 into it. would it be a direct bolt in? I didn't no if it would just bolt in or not. An would I have to get a motor that's from that year or made for that year, or can i just get a 350 sbc? If it would just bolt in I think I might just go that way with a 350. Thanks for the answers guys!

Pretty sure you can just drop a 350 in as long as it's carbed an not electronic then it would get a bit tricky. When we swapped out my 305 for the 350 we had to remove the ecu an the electronic carb junk besides that it was rather quick. I might be forgetting something though that was 9 years ago.

Does anyone know what the stock valvetrain can take as in cam duration? I was thinking of getting COMP Cam with a 280 duration but I don't know what the most the valvetrain can take. Any info would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what for rear it has. I got it yesterday for my first car. The trans is the 3 speed auto. I'm going to get an exhaust, longtube headers, an cam for now. till i save some money.

nice shape, yeah your gonna want the 350 eventually to move all that, and i thought my ss was heavy. I would do, headers/exhaust, rearend, then cam. Yur probably have an open end unless you have a civilian police package with posi.

devildog214- do you know like the h-body an g-body an all them? If so can you tell me which body mine is cause I was looking on Jegs for an exhaust kit for it an ( I think it was) G-body cause my year fit it. I'd like to get an exhaust instead of having to custom build one. If you know of any other place besides Jegs and summit that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

but on jegs the exhaust for a b-body was a different year. Like the cars year doesn't fit into it you know what I mean? I'd like to stay away from a full custom exhaust for it, cause I'd like to just bolt it up an go. But if i have to i'll just custom fab an exhaust.

very nice....in my opinion, for what you would spend hopping up a 305, you can put a decent 350 in the car, and have lots of room for improvement. all the mounts are the same and everything. the problem with the 305 is the small bore (3.76 inches) vs the 350 (4 inches) which limits your cylinder head selection and how big of a valve you can run. world products makes a head for the 305, but i dont remember the exact name. whatever you build, i would go with a head that has about a 190 cc intake runner with ~ 270 duration cam, good dual plane intake, and a reasonably sized 4 barrel carb, and it will run good on the street
