Intel vs AMD

So since the PC is the clear winner in the Mac vs PC thread, I thought I would get a feeler for Intel vs AMD support

I myself am on a Quad Core Intel CPU and loving it. I used to be an AMD fanboi up until Core 2 Duos came around and Athlon X2s were looking like a waste of time. My last AMD CPU was an AMD 2500+ XP Barton which had an unlocked multiplier and I would leave the timings alone and just set it up as a 3200+ air cooled which was nice. But now I am rocking a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Quad at 3.6 - 3.8GHz watercooled. No looking back! I am an Intel guy now!

I too used to be an AMD only guy. Now I just have a recent celeron... which is actually halfway decent.

I've been running a Phenom 9950 X4 BE AM2+ for a few months now. I had been upgraded my last system to it's max capacity so I figured I'd build something new.

as of monday i'm on a AM2+ Phenom as well, and it blows every Intel i've ever used out of the water, although i'm still looking for a CUDA enabled program to convert Nikon Raw files to JPG.

i believe i'm running AMD's 9850 quad core... thing is brutal. i've played warhammer online and eve online with full graphics while doing other stuff (dual monitors) and the thing barely strained.

I was AMD until the Intel Duos came out.

3.0 duo at 3.6 right now. Looking into a quad core setup.

I like AMD for the fact intel was the designer of processors like the 8088 and 8086 but did not build them, they turned to AMD to build them for them because they could not handle the task. Then when intel purchased their wafers only and then build their own AMD was just like meh screw it were gonna compete with them now. For a long time AMD made a comparable product for half the price. Then for a while they exceeded intels technology. But now intel has the ball in their court.

Regarless, they are both good products..... I just lol'd remembering Cyrix

really depends on the absolute specific line of chips.. im running a intel i7 920 chip in one machine with 12 gigs of 1600 ddr and a amd 4800+ ( top 939 chip) w/ 4 gigs of ddr 2 in that and both machines rip.. both machines are incredibly stable and they both over clock well but as far as history and amd vs intel goes for me personally amd has always been more stable overclocked. i got really go prices on my stuff but if i had to pay average retail i would in a heartbeat go with amd for dollar value.

All the computers my parents have that I use everyday are AMD but when I did play around with my friends Toshiba laptop with the centrino I was impressed. Definitely fast and very stable.

Intel since they launched the core series. The new i7s are crazy and the thought of a 32 core processor coming next year is impressive. I've been running a quad core since 07 and I love it.

Intel is quite honestly light years ahead of AMD in technology at this point. A buddy of mine is an electrical engineer at Intel and gave me a sneak peak at a new processor that's still in the design phase a couple weeks ago. The power/size ratio of the prototype chip was quite honestly beyond anything I would have conceived possible. They're doing some ridiculous stuff at Intel.

I prefer intel.

Only because AMD's top of the line quad core (9950 black box) can barely compete with Intel's entry level quad cores.

AMD used to spank Intel like a red headed step child, but in recent years, Intel came back with a baseball bat. However, for most of us daily users, we'll never notice the line changes. 3800 x2 in my computer does me just fine.

Both kick ass - back when I built my PC (years ago) AMD was at the top of it's game. I have a 3200 with the clawhammer core (socket 754 haha) and it has ran great with zero hiccups ever. I'll have to do some research before building another computer but AMD has treated me well
