5D or 5DMKII?
if i got the 5D i'd probably also pick up a 24mm TSE or the 16-35L.

My personal opinion is get the 5D "classic" and 24 TSE. If you might really get into video (invest both money and time) it can be cool, but still isn't worth the premium if you're not using it a ton. And if you're not making huge prints I don't see the advantage to the sensor, other than maybe a stop better of high ISO noise performance.
Autofocus is the same, i think frame rate is similar, as is the body. So if you're doing video and printing bigger than 20x30 (or crop really heavily) then get the 5D2, otherwise save your money for glass!

chris, you make some good points. I haven't done any video prior, but i was thinking it could be something i could add to a interior shoot, by doing some panning shots of the space etc etc. but does that justify paying double what a classic 5d costs used? ugh!!!! i guess i just have to see if i "really honestly" will be gaining anything by going the MKII route. i just hate that, if i went with the classic, i'd be spending soo much loot on a body that is already discontinued.

Couldn't resist the latest and greatest, I don't blame you. Not bad for 3200 ISO ;) Looking forward to more!

well to be honest i ordered a used classic 5D and a used 16-35L but that night i had a dream about the MKII so i called up and canceled the order and got the MKII.
I'm sure i would have been happy with the classic, but in the back of my mind i would have regrets about not getting the MKII.

Yeah I kind of did the same thing - I wanted the 5D Mk2 but ended up getting a new 50D. I will probably upgrade to a 5D Mk2 this winter for FF. I also bought a 16 - 35L, 50mm F/1.4, and 580EX II - I wouldn't have been able to if I had bought the 5D mk2 out of the gates.

yea i was really torn but i didn't want to invest into another new body after 2 years, like i have been for the past 6 years. I also wanted to rent the 16-35L and the 24LTSE to decide which will work best before i purchase them.
oh and yes the iso is incredible compared to the 40D.

I think you made the right choice, you pretty much have a medium format camera in a DSLR body PLUS you have HD video. I've seen videos from that camera and they're ****ing amazing. Post some stuff up.

Do you have some decent glass? That was my problem with getting the 5DII was that if I dropped the coin, I would still only have an EF-S zoom lens, a 70-200 F4L telephoto, and a 420EX flash, and the EF-S wouldn't even mate lol. So hopefully I can flip my 50D in the winter and grab the 5DII or maybe even a 1DIII
