Turbo diesel build up

I just got the heads back from Lorenzo's Fast Flow this week. The long block got assembled this morning and is ready for paint. I placed some of the olive drab coated accessories(courtesy of Bonehead) on the engine for pics.
This is the future grease burning heart for the Jeep.

While you all wheel drive folks were playin' in the snow this morning, I fired up ol' smokey to warm the garage with a little coal fire.

It's still runnin on the gas motor. As soon as the diesel is completely assembled, I will remove the whole front end of the truck for some MAJOR rust repair. With the front sheet metal removed I can easily install the new engine/trans combo. I am also trashing both front and rear axle assemblies for more modern axles out of a Chevy. Its going to take some time and a whole lot of $$$$.

As far as compression goes, stock was 22:1, the new pistons are 17.5:1. I plan on running ~15-18 psi That should get me in the 250 hp/700 ft.lb. range. I might get silly with some propane/water injection and maybe a little nos.

Well, it isn't just Lorenzo. My engine block/crank/rods were machined by Greg@ GN auto in Doylestown. Greg does some of the best machine work in Bucks County, but once again, I had to wait 3 months for it. Good machine shops are getting very tough to find and anyone with a good reputation will be extremely busy.

Don't be upset with Lorenzo, his crew does some great engine work. It is ALWAYS better to wait for good machine work rather than assemble an engine to find the crank cut too much or the cylinders bored too much....... done by a less than satisfactory machinist. I've seen it happen.
