Well I'm really liking the feel and features of the cannon rebel xsi but its a lil higher in price.. i think the xti is also a pretty sick camera... so what are some other comparable models to those? also where can i find the best deal? i think I'm better off going used... thanks for the advice!

I use an Canon Rebel XS. Shrug. A lot of people will just tell you to buy better models used.

The D40 is also a pretty nice DSLR so start off with.

i would try to find a used nikon d50 for a good price. the d40 presents a handful of non-user friendly problems with the lens selection available. how much are you looking to spend would be my first question.

I just sold my XTI for a little over 300 and you can get an XS on amazon pretty cheap. I think that's the going rate for used decent-DSLRs.

I got a Sony Alpha 200 for Christmas. I havent had much of a chance to really use it... but from the snaps I have taken, I like it.

yea my xti just sold for $350. to be completely honest, i would look at a nikon d50 or d70s. since they're discontinued you can find them for pretty cheap and they take all of the nikon lenses. i will say that they feel like a better camera in your hands as compared to an xti. of you can get a 20D or 30D from canon for $3-500. a canon 20D would be great and a better deal than the xti in my opinion.

find a used 20D. can be had for under $400 and you can get a good cheap lens to complete the kit for roughly $400

i have a used nikon D40 with an 18-55 non-VR lens. i got it during the summer and didnt use it much at all if ur interested shoot me a PM il sell it to you for 400 for everything i have

if you want a 20d my brother is selling one, he has the body, 50mm f1.8 lens and a battery grip for it. i know its in great condition cuz it used to be mine so if interested i can get a price for you. without the grip in the package that setup should be close to ur price range
