Anyone else here with Army background?

Is there anyone else here have any background, reserves or active? I leave for basic Tuesday and it felt like just yesterday I signed up and was couting down the days.

I did Army ROTC. Good stuff. Still want to do it but it conflicts with my classes. I'm doing it next semester though. I loved everything from it. specially APFT's. That was some good times. Im still thinking about signing but we'll see what happens. Good luck in basic bro. Just remember never quit, HOAHH!!

With ROTC you go in as a second lieutenant. I was all about it my first 2 semesters but slowly lost interest. Now i tried to do it again this semester but it interferes with a class i have to take. If i were to join, i wanna go infantry all out. But i still have yet to learn of all the other options and positions available.

eh 5 years instead of 4, planned on 4 but the bonus for 5 was 35k while 4 was only 15k so 20k extra for 1 year kinda took it.

Where are you trying to get stationed? Staying state side or overseas?

I would like to stay somewhat close to home to see the g/f and family as much. My dream sheet is basically anywhere close I can get.

1. Ft Drum NY
2. Ft Bragg NC
3. Ft Detrick MD

Overseas

1. Germany
2. Possibly England

Bad end of my job is the demand for the amount when Obama has the 30k sent to Afghanistan. As it looks now, I'll be posting spotted threads on tst about the camels that ride by.

Haha if you call transporting soldier's and ammo back and forth interesting. Basically driving soldier's between point's if I were to go over, and then also transporting any other good's needed. I won't even be able to drive in combat until I am a E-4 so I would still have a bit of time of sitting shotty reading directions.

some of my friends are in the army navy marines, and what not. what they tell me opens my eyes on how the world really is. like Den9 said, they give u a different perspective than what is covered on the news. i was personally thinking about joining the airforce to help shape me up in the real world, and also help pay for school.

Good luck to you though hope everything goes well

I was a Combat Engineer (12B) with the Reserves back in the Storm/Shield days...I was fortunate to get out a month before my unit was being sent over the sandbox. I would have stayed in but my girlfriend at the time (now my wife) wasn't a big fan, so I didn't re-up...kinda glad now.

Good luck at basic...remember it's a really big mind-ef so as long as you listen, do what you're told and can help those around you to do the same you'll all make it out better off. There will be days that you can not do anything right, no matter how right you do it, but that is all part of the tear down and build up process. The first three weeks are the worst, then it gets better.

Any idea were you are going for basic?

I will, I get back on my birthday from AIT so it's going to be a good one haha, and I heard that too, I'm not hiding from going over, I knew my chances when I signed up. It's something I am willing and happy to do for myself and this country.

Thank's man, yea I was going to go into the Air Force but the waiting period was not working, my dad was in the Air Force and I have much respect for that, which is kind of what made me go also.

I'm going to Ft. Sill for basic and Ft. Leonardwood for AIT, I know about the mind game, I really want a good change for my life and I am hoping it does well.

I did Basic and AIT at Lost in the Woods. Not a terrible place if you can dodge the Brown Recluse. I was there Aug-Nov and saw 115F and 10F..of course both those extremes came while were in the field.

Have fun, it is definitely worth it if you have the right mindset. I know I came out a better person.

I am thinking very hard of joining. I am clueless what I would for them, though. Background is in telecommunications. I'd also like to kill a lot of baddies, though.
