tell me about fox body mustangs

I haven't ever driven a domestic car... at all. Anyways.... instead of going to one of the mustang forums and hearing a bunch of biased praise. (and since im lazy) I was wondering what people's opinions are of these cars? The fox body mustangs that is.

Are they fun to drive? Is it easy to step out the rear end? How's the steering feel? I'm guessing the engine is pretty good?

How's maintenance? Is it true that ford stands for ****er Only Runs Downhill? ..I hear parts for them are really cheap.

And of course, if anyone has some pics plz post them.

ok, i managed to...

parts are plentiful and relatively cheap. 80's v8s were horrible stock, most barely put out 150hp. good platform to work on, something breaks... parts are easy to find

Pretty much. I had a 93 LX 5.0 5 speed. It put 192whp and 262ft lbs of torque basically stock. Cut a 14.6 quarter. What do you need to know? PM me if you want, I have had one, and I deal with mustangs every single day. They are great cars, I loved mine. They're better if you dont mind putting some money into it. But, its not gonna be anything like any import you've driven. They handle *ok*, they handle *good* if you put money into suspension, but again to get it to handle great like a decently set up 240 or something like that on coilovers, it takes a lot of money. Its very easy to kick the ass end out, but its hard to control. Again any questions your have pm me. But long story short, they're fun for goin straight and doing burnouts, but if you want it to handle good, look to drop big money.

EDIT: And yes, they are fun to drive! Mods are so cheap for them its kinda crazy. You can slap a full vortech s-trim v2 supercharger kit and make like 350whp for about $3500, and thats on a stock motor. Plus, mustangs just sound badass!

There are a lot of parts for them. Whatever you want to do with it you can. I've been in a 300rwhp GT and it was fun, not crazy fast but it was a fun car to drive. But you can make it into whatever you want to.

Thanks for the opinions and info, I may consider getting one of these down the road now since it sounds like they are really easy to mod. Definitely interesting.... I just found out it's not uncommon to swap in an IRS in favor of the solid rear axle... that's friggin awesome.

Yea people swap the IRS out of the cobra's, its hilarious though because the cobra guys swap in solid axles lol. If you do have any other questions, technical or opinions, just shoot me a PM! Always glad to help when I can.

I went to look at a few a couple years ago when i was interested in buying one. I couldnt really get into them. They just feel sloppy compared to the nissans i was used to. Even the body up close doesn't look as nice.

But i was driving mainly mid 90s nissans like s13 and z32. so yea the foxbody is a little older. When i got into s12s, I found mine which is an 88, and truthfully, the s12 200sx and the foxbody stang are about on par with eachother. Both handle a bit sloppy, both come with a torquey V motor... the s12 does have a sort of older IRS, so it may handle a bit better than the stang. .. on the other hand though it has 2 less cyl. but the same overall 80s crappy quality

if you want something practical, and pretty fast a mustang is good. when you get to the handling aspect its just never going to be as nice. id go fox or new edge.

Parts are cheap.

^^ T-tops would be awesome. I was a real big fan of notchbacks, was looking to get one years back but never found anything good.

notch backs that are original 5.0's, and in any sort of good condition, are getting hard to find. I'd LOVE if I could find a cheap 5.0 notch. I like new edge the most, I was actually trying to get one recently but finances dont allow currently. Like I said though, they are good cheap fun.

i think fox are the best looking body style for some reason...i can explain a lot about them from 89 to 92 the hp rating was 225hp and 300 tourqe...in 93 it was bumped down to 215? but i love them there not ment for handleing and thats a fact...but there fun to drive and the 5.0 (302) sounds awsome with aftermarket exhaust on them

Go for a notchback if any one of them. They are the lightest out of all the Foxes. Parts go for real cheap used. Good longtubes used can go for around 150-200. 4.10s will also wake it up a lot. My friend has 3000 stall converter, a couple minor boltons and suspension work on a lx, and he is running mid 13s. Aren't fast out of factory but don't take much either.

A buddy of mines lx hatch had minor bolt ons and a shot of nitrous ran 12.9 so doesnt take much at all.

My notch is currently sitting at the 650HP mark
