Not sure which part to change..exhaust ?s

My exhaust is..well its loud. Ide like to mellow it out a little bit, especially while im cruising. I dont mind loud when im taking off..but I want to tone it down when im just cruising around town or on the highway. I run a resonated test pipe, non resonated mid pipe and a racing muffler. Most of the noise, is more like a drone when cruising. It comes from right under the seats, more so the the muffler. So I dont feel like I need to change the muffler. That leaves me with two things...The non resonated midpipe, and the resonated test pipe. Whats causing the drone? Im debating on changing the midpipe first. Either having a resonator welded into my midpipe, or buying a resonated midpipe. Ive got quoates for $115 to have a resonator welded into my midpipe(including the resonator) Or $128+ shipping for a racing beat resonated midpipe. What do you guys think? Would adding a resonator make a difference?

The other option...is to change the muffler and leave everything else the same. But I dont know if that a right choice or not. I can get an axle back muffler for less then $150...and keep my testpipe/midpipe the same.

sorry mybad, lol. personally, i would just do the new set up from racing beat. Cant go wrong with a whole new rig. the resonator would probably be the best bet, but you will lose some overall noise (such as launching) since a resonator acts as a second muffler.

I'm not sure how the underside of your car is laid out, but I used to have a terrible drone because the exhaust was too close to the driveshaft. At certain RPMs there was a booming sound inside the car, moved the pipe just a little and it went away.

Hmm..So you suggest going with a new resonated midpipe. I just dont want to spend the $$, and be let down.

well the difference between the two arent that big. Or you could decide in the way of down time for your car. unless you have another one to drive. than thats irrelevant.

sorry i misinterpreted. adding a resonator will eliminate noise definitely. it may not kill that drone altogether, but will soften it.

Ya I want no down time. This is my only car as of now. The Racing Beat stuff is really high quality, and highly rated in the Mazda community. Maybe i'll give that a try...that way, I can sell my non resonated midpipe and make some of the $$ back.

there you go. i didnt even think of that. like i said, if i can get a new rig for the price of repairing or upgrading the previous, i just go with the new set up. i see it as an insurance/comfort thing.

I agree..thought it will cost a little more. So I guess i'll add that to the list. I loved having a loud car for running around town and fun spirited drives, but I need something quieter now that its a Daily Driver.

get rid of the test pipe and get a real cat and you'll kill a bunch of the rasp and droning noise as well. you'll keep all of your exhaust's flow potential. the 2.5" Magnaflow Carsound hi-flow cat i bought for my integra has been flow tested and proven capable to flow almost double the stock Honda NSX-R cats, which are designed for a race version of a 3.2L V6, so it's great for us 4 cyl. guys for sure lol.

even though it's from an integra site, this page of articles is very universal, there's a lot of tech info: http://www.team-integra.net/sections...les.asp?Show=1

scroll to the bottom of the page and read underneath 'Exhaust'. there's some real good stuff in there. you may learn enough to make you decide to buy individual parts for your exhaust and get them welded or it might just point you toward the easy bolt on racing beat setup. either way, there's a lot of good info in there and at least you can better understand what you're trying to do.
