Hey all, just got my car back from Jim's shop (Vsix)...running awesome...just wondering who here runs a big K&N or other brand air filter?

I've gotta 9" on my MAF pipe routed in front of the headlight opening and it really sounds like a BOV to me. Anyone else have 'whooshing' sound w/o a bov? haha...never really had this big a filter and its kinda cool and different. I'll post pics this afternoon.

yes, between my short ram filter and my 4" bellmouth dp, all i hear is air swooooshhhh- i don't need a BOV at all!

Mine is a pretty large K&N style filter (3" intake), but I don't hear any wooshing out of anything other than my GReddy Type RS.

That's awsome to hear that it is running. I better get a ride tonight. Anyway Mom's car makes the same kinda sound. She loves going past kids and doing it cause she's a 45 year old woman lol. She has I think the 3 maybe 3.5 inch chrome kit that puts the 9" right about level with the bottom of the car. She needs to get Exhaust next though and turn the boost up some.

yea i think she has the 3"...3.5" looks HUGE and the fuel vapor canister has to be relocated. (mine is laying on its side lol) yea man, no fuel leaks too! josh of j.s. performance did an awesome job on it

jim is going little by little and tweaking my car...should be pretty mean soon

Yeah her's is just laying there I think. My dad may have fab up something but I forget.

When I put an intake on my WRX, I noticed the same sound. With the stock blow off valve, the air is dumped back into the intake when you let off the gas. That's the sound you hear. There is less sound restriction with a big cone filter, so the sound is more noticable.

yea, my short ram from AEM was loud as hell. People thought I had an exhaust on (at the time I didn't) by how loud the car was. Sometimes I turn off the radio to listen to the cool whoosing sound.

My AEM was loud with the stock one, then it got crushed and now I have someones spare DSM one on there that got fabbed up at a picnic.

So, is this "big air filter" thread innuendo for something else? Or are air filters related (inversely or not) to e-wang?

Now, this was originally about air-filters being indicitive of e-wang. You've brought length of tubing in. It should be noted that a short, thick ram with a big filter can provide better experience than a long thin tube with a small filter.

Now that we are completely off topic.....

I had a long cold air intake. I cut it in half to make it a short ram. Does that mean that I have shortened my e-wang as well?

It was filter size, not tube length.

And no. You always had a small e-wang.
