Yea, I was pretty surprised when I got to the pet shop. I guess its a law now that they cannot be sold without the purchase of a "Turtle Kit", I remembered them being $3.99.

$85.00 later I had the turtles and everything but a Red Ear Enema kit for them.

nice man i have two myself. one is that size and one is about 8 inches. post a pic of the tank you got them in. mine eat EVERYTHING i put in the tank. crayfish, blue gills. here's mine....

I have a 14 year old red ear. About 12 inches long. I love him but his 75 gallon tank is a pita to clean.

I dont have anything impressive yet. Just the dock, some gravel, a little underwater cave, heater, and filter.

The turtles havent been on the dock unless I put them there for 2 days. They wont even sleep on it. They just lay by the heater all day. The water is 76 throughout but they just chill by the heater. Is that normal?

Water should be between 75-85. The warmer it is the more they eat. It might not be warm enough for them to come out of the water. A heat lamp helps out.

^I have a heat lamp hooked up too. IDK whats up. I guess Ill crank up the water heater tonight and see what happens.

The Pet shop chick told me that some owners like to keep the tank at 80ish and "Power Feed" their red ears so they grow fast and large. IDK why you would want to but she said that was a common practice.

I have 2 red eared sliders.... I hate cleaning their tank more than anything and the filter always gets clogged up. I also need to upgrade the tank, I am just too lazy. UGH. Damn me and my habit of liking 'pairs' of things. 2 dogs, 2 parakeets, 2 turtles. EFF. The smell of their tank makes me want to vom. I'm building an outdoor pond next year, I can't stand the smell.

^Dude, snails, sucker fish, and I have 2 filters. One filter is for the top water (10-30 gallon) and anothe 3 gallon filter with the hose going down into the gravel to clean all the **** that sinks.
