Cartooning my car (photoshop(first try at this, be nice))

So I decided to give cartooning a try, what do you think? Its obviously not that great as its my very first one and its nowhere near finished.

I think it looks good so far. What techniques are you using? Pen tool and painting? Sometimes I'll freehand it off a photo first with black marker (you can trace too) and then scan it in and color it in layers. I did that for my cousin's wedding gift, it's people but you get the idea on how it translates:

Well there are different ways of doing it. All of which pretty much begin with a photo that you want to use.

1.You can either draw paths with the pen tool in photoshop and color different sections in multiple layers. Adding shadows and highlights as well.
2. Or you can scan in a marker line drawing based off the photo and use the lines as a layer with no background. Proceeding with coloring behind the lines to form your picture. (What i did in my previous post).
3. Or you can drag the photo into Illustrator and use the pen tool there to trace it and form individual shapes of color and then you can export that to photoshop to shadow and highlight that.

There are probably are other ways to do it but those are the ones I prefer.

I actually didn't do it any of those ways. I opened the original in photoshop, then made an additional layer, colored it white, turned the opacity down so so I could see through, and traced it with the line tool. Then from there just colored and shadowed etc.
