must be nice when the turbo is big enough for the need of a spacer for the exhaust manifold

I always wanted a DSM when I was younger, that's like my dream setup. Good luck, looks sweet, tell us how it's running after the break in.

Looking good!

I think your IC is probably at least twice as big as mine, lol.

I don't know what mods you have or don't have but upgraded center diff should be on there. Of course, if you never plan on launching the car at 5k+ rpms with a sticky clutch then you won't have any problems.

The problems start when people launch at high rpms trying to spin all four tires through 1st gear and try to shift faster than an automatic.

do DSMers every upgrade their manifolds?
I know honda guys see tremendous gains (sometimes up to 40-50 lbs of tq) from changing their log style turbo manifolds to an equal length manifold

Why should they when a ported one is good enough?

Yea, sometimes DSMer's get the tubular manis but not many companies make a "solid" one. A big problem with these tubular manis is that they crack at the welds (SSAutoChrome and I've seen the same with SBR). But seriously DSMer's like to do it the cheapest yet safest way possible. And if the 2nd gen and Evo manifolds flow enough, then why mess with it? Upgrade it when it breaks...

i remember seeing a video of a turbo eg honda hatch making an extra 15 or 20 whp gain when switching to an equal length tubular manifold. i have thought the same question before.

Tubular exhaust manifolds work well but don't last long. Compared to the stock cast iron manifolds, even the best tubular setup will only last 1/10th as long. Why? Simply because there isn't enough metal in them and welds are prone to failure.

And, OEM manifolds have gone into the 10s so it really isn't holding a lot of people back.

Personally, I would rather lose 20-40hp and not have to deal with replacing/fixing a $500 peice all the time.

agreed, cast (especially OEM) would prolly last alot longer, but there are alot of great tubular manifold companies out there (obx is plain crap).

for example full-race.com makes full on steel manifolds with 8 Gauge steel with robotic welding, and has been proven to not crack . (and also boasts a lifetime warranty).

Arguably, its true- if you can get 10's with a stock manifold, thats nice. I guess the honda world doesn't have many options

But then again here is the persona of your typical DSMer'....
"If it didn't break why am I replacing it?" Honestly, if a car is capable of running 10's with a ported manifold then why spend the extra $400-500 just for an extra 10-20lbs of torque? DSM's have enough torque hence why they are always breaking.

That might be true for Honda but not for DSMs. And there have been several companies in the past that have tried.... Archer use to race talons and was one of the first I can remember that offered a lifetime warranty. Needless to say, they were fixing their manifolds all the time, redesigned them, still had problems and then just eventually stopped selling them altogether.

Not sure how and why but maybe it's because DSMrs just beat their cars more, run more boost. Or it could just be that the motor puts out more heat compared to others.

One thing is the 4g63 has proven itself, overtime, to be a very stout motor that can take a lot more abuse than just about all the other parts bolted to it. So it is very common to see people push the motor and max out the other components.

And my car is running... I would bring it out this Thursday but I really need to do a lot more to it before the Philly DSM dyno meet this weekend at Philly Dyno Works.

Shepherd (7 second talon) has a tubular-type of mani, I don't know the brand though. Probably real $$$$$ so it's best I don't find out.

Yeah, but those guys don't care about having to fix/replace parts all the time. I'm sure Rau (with the 6 sec almost 200mph 4g63) has a tubular one, too.
