usually the wheels are 2-3 pieces, so you can replace just the rims, or the spoke part... usually you see them in expensive baller wheels... and knockoffs just have fake 2 piecers... fake ones

The rivets on a (true) multi piece wheel bolt the face of the wheel to the drum (the two are torque'd together.) Like “igo4bmx” said, you can then take the face off and have it refinished, powder coated, painted, etc. But on a knock-off, it’s a solid piece, and to give the appearance of a muti-piece wheel, holes are drilled into the face, and fake looking rivets are inserted. (This can actually weaken the strength of the wheel.) If you see the wheels in person and you’ve got a good eye, you can spot the fake ones. If you have a heavy, high speed, and/or high horsepower car like a Supra, Cobra, Porsche, Vette, etc, that’s when you almost always see a true 3 piece wheel. However, on a light weight/front wheel drive car, a multi piece, $3,000 wheel is not necessary. The knock-offs can get the job done… Last edited by 9 Ball; 10-08-2005 at 06:37 AM. |

Rims look sweet. There's nothing wrong with knockoff's, they look just as nice and are half the price.
