porsche 944 information?

my dad and i have been talking about going SCCA racing for a while now and i'm about at the point to start putting together information. in a few monthes, we'll be looking to purchase a 944 for track use.

does anyone know of any good information 944 forums?
or where the best place to look for classifieds are?

i know for MR2 owners, mr2trader.com is a good classifieds site, i didn't know if porsche had one also.

What class are you looking into (GT, IT, Prod)? You might be better off starting at a classified section sepcific to the race class.

i have a 944 but it needs work like new tranny and possible engine rebuild
and front fender and rear quarter panel on the driver side
plus new carpeting and seals for the windshield and sunroof
i want to fix it so bad but i couldnt seem to find a decent 5 spd transaxle anywhere for less then 2500-3000
plus installation and the carpeting and the body work is very expensive too unless i could find someone to do the body work and carpet + seat installation for a decent price??

i would personally go with an E30 bmw platform. if your looking for a car that you can do alot of events in, these bmw's are perfect since they qualify for many events (set up correctly) and parts are pretty cheap since many people run these cars for these events. i was looking into doing the scca as well and i would def. go with the bmw over the porsche.

i LOVE the e30 bmw's but it seems like its pretty difficult to find one in decent shape with no rust. e36's are even better but are a little out of my price range :-(

I have an '89 944 and love it. Everyone thinks that these cars are stupid expensive to buy and maintain, but they are really not. If you do your own work, you can build a good track car for much less than you would think. These cars are a blast to drive and handle like they are glued to the road. I would start with a non turbo car as they are cheap and have the same handling as the turbo cars. Do a search for 944 cup racing and you will find lots of good info on building and racing a 944. Be sure to mark your calandar for the end of May to check out the 944 cup series race at Pocono. You should also come check out any PCA track event and you'll get a chance to see some cool 944's and talk to a bunch of owners for advice and wisdom. Read all you can and good lick with your search. See you on the track.

They also have the 944 cup series at Summit Point. It's some of the best racing I've watched, second only to Spec Miata
