the joys of thunder and lightning

and standing out on your 8th floor deck watching an open sky and seeing the bolts miles long... and realizing... standing out on the deck of the highest floor of the highest building in the area... may not be the most intelligent thing you could have done...

and its back inside for me...

I love sitting in my garage with a cigar and a beer during a nasty lightning storm.

X10. Feeling the cool air move in is the best, especially after these past few days

Watched that **** at work today when all the power went out. I was loving it, especially the nice cool breeze after 10 hours of working in this heat.

I sat out for an hour with my camera to try and get a decent shot, and yep, I didn't get a single good shot out of thousands of strikes!

For the people with power outages, consider that it could take a full day or two to restore power to all the customers who lost power (and I hope you have some good surge protection!). I watched at least 3 separate transformers go out from my backyard within the hour that I was sitting out, before the majority of the lightning and wind came.

Yup, like 3 of transformers around us went out before the lightning even started hitting.

Unfortunately, two extremely hot days coupled with a very powerful electrical storm seriously messed some **** up.

I haven't been there in years. There's something special about burning the roof of your mouth while hot grease runs down your forearm. Damn... now I'm hungry.

As for the storm, I was standing on my deck watching a wall of black clouds charge across the sky. Loved it!

We got hit hard... & our power was out for like 8 hours.

Heres some pics showing why...

We got hit with this thing called a downburst or something... where its like hurricane winds 50mph+ then the wind stopped. & in certain spots the air rushed straight down snapping trees in the area in half or just tearing them out of the ground. Every road within 3 miles of my house had about a dozen trees down on it.

THis was the top of a tree about 50ft. up. The wind snapped it off and it landed right where im standing which about 5 mins before was a ft. away from the back bumper of my car.

i was pretty stoaked it didnt land on my lude, cuz it would have prolly totalled it due to the fact that it weighs about 100lbs.

So yeah, I was messing with my car and I looked up and saw the clouds. Packed my tools up calmly, threw everything inside my car, wrapped my jack in a tarp and stuck a log on it (car is still jacked up), to keep the tarp from rolling, closed my garage and started walking in.

Neighbor: Done?
Me: Nope.
Neighbor: There's still light, why ya quittin?
Me: Gonna rain in about 30 seconds.
Neighbor: *looks up* Nah, it'll pass.

5 seconds later, it's pouring.

i remember during a snow storm i drove by a transformer as it was blowing up, it was the craziest thing ever, i told my friend next to me that was a once in a lifetime thing, 3 hours later i drove by the same exact intersection and it started sparking again

does any1 know if lightning can travel through walls because i remember when i was younger i seen lightning go through the wall of my friends garage while i was in it, not sure if i was seeing stuff though
