Warhammer 40k. Anyone play?
Old IG Army. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I recently just got back into the hobby mainly to give me something constructive to do instead of putting money into my car. The army I'm building now is a Tau army and I am taking more time in painting them. ![]() ![]() ![]() So does anyone else on here play?

I don't play anymore, I enjoyed building and painting them a bit more than the game.
Are you using a wash to get the recesses, or a small brush? How about drybrushing? You can really bring out details, and bring a model "to life" if you learn those two.

I use a small brush to get the recesses. I haven't looked much into other ways to paint like some of the pro painters due.

To do a "wash" you simply take the desired color, and thin it down so that when you apply it, it "floods" the recess with paint. Its a trial and error process, each paint is a little different as to how much thinning you need to do to get it to flow, but once you learn the technique, you'll love it. It make take a few passes in the recess to get the desired depth, but it makes life much easier.
To dry brush, you need a well worn brush(the finer the bristles, the finer the effect will be), not a dirty brush, or a abused and stiff brush. Take the color you want to highlight the edges with, wet the brush with the paint, and then wipe the brush onto a paper towel till most of the moisture is out of the paint. Then you take the almost-dry brush, and brush the surface. If you did it correct, only the areas where you applied pressure or the raised edges of the models will get the paint. If its too wet, then you get streaks, if its too dry you get nothing. Again, both techniques are trial and error, but once you get a feel for them, you'll love it.

I played Black Orcs back in elementary school/ middle school. Then when my mom got a massive pay cut I quit playing cause she couldn't afford to buy me anymore lol... ****s super expensive. It was fun though, my friend and his brothers were really into it, and they had a highly detailed board we used to play on that they made.

you need to thin your paints. i want to get back into painting once i get my office really set up. I was experimenting with wet blending probably 10 years ago now... layering, etc. would love to see if my abilities are still any decent.
i stopped playing around the age of 19 after working at GW in the franklin mills mall... but thanks for posting something about 40k you jackass... now i need to go digging through my two big plastic bins and see about putting together a bloodclaw pack for sculpt and paint work... gotta see if i can dig up some pictures of some sculpting work... been awhile i'd also prefer to get back into necromunda... working there kind of killed the hobby for me. "eagle to the wall" "make sure we're always fully stocked" (that was the managers downfall... keeping perfect stock even when something only sold maybe once a month) i was also socially awkward and couldnt muster the feigned enthusiasm that was required when giving demos... especially when i kept being told to "be more excited" it was cool opening and closing the store though. i'd love to get back into the hobby... but i checked out the new location of that store and it's horrible... cramped with fat kids... would love to run some games out of my basement though! its just every time i go looking for players at the local haunts they're generally all the same sorts... obnoxious teens or pretentious older fat dudes who act like obnoxious teens. i just want to have some fun playing 40k again... drink some beer, dick around, watch some movies and roll some dice. i'll take a picture of my **** tonight. i have enough to easily make a foot slogging army or two... might have enough **** to make a rhino for a few squads. if people are willing to geek out and not be assholes in my house, i'd be willing to maybe set up a game night of 40k... do some 1k games... maybe even a 10k game since we have a huge board in the garage that the previous owner left that was meant for a train set |

Haven't played that in years, actually preferred the old :Space Marine/Titan Legions" I think that became Epic and then something else like Epic Warhammer 40,000.
I really miss painting and sculpting the figures though. I use to give demonstrations years ago in the Granite Run mall. Have always thought about getting back into one of there games

Are you talking about the GS on Cottman? If so the manager there is an ass, and that's why I'm getting the rest of my Tau stuff off of the website or ebay.

it generally costs around... $30-40 for a single squad though... and some armies are capable of fielding 6 squads. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/ca...ameStyle=wh40k looks like they released a necron's codex recently as they're getting new mondels. I've always been a space wolf or ork player. wanted a nurgle marine army though but had issues painting "messy" |

My cousin was really into this when he was younger. I almost got into it, but as everyone knows, it becomes cocaine and you spend $$$. With my addictive personality, i had to shy away. Now that Skyrim is out, I have to do the same thing... lol!

while at GW i put together an all metal slaanesh metal for fantasy when the demon army codex came out (6ish years ago) what only cost me about... $150 would have retailed for 700+. Fortunately, while GW pays ****, the, at the time, employee discount was amazing. 25 cents an ounce for pewter stuff. so a terminator would cost around a quarter! instead of $8. i regret not doing what i had done after working there while working there... i sold that slaanesh demon army for nearly $400 on ebay... all plastics were 60% off as well. I'd totally get a part time job for a few months again to make some extra scratch reselling product and building an army of new models Last edited by Scapegoat; 01-21-2012 at 10:03 AM. |

Oh I know its nothing hahaha. It's all I want to spend on it tho. Did the big money build with the IG army I used to have. I have 5 forgeworld pieces. Including that Baneblade before they made it a plastic kit.
