Anyone have experience with Coilovers? Tein specifically...
I just installed some Tein Flex Coilovers on my WRX... this is all new to me. I adjusted the fronts tonight to get them to the recommended settings in the manual and they seem louder now... i'm thinking i need to adjust preload (and i want to adjust height). Just wondering if anyone out there has some experience with adjusting coilovers in general, or specifically Teins who could either give me some tips online or in person. Holla! bryan

i can help you out. as long as you dont banish me lol. ........sorry man im not trying to be a cock on these boards. i have tien he's. i have them without a controller though. i use the wrenches what do you want to know?
You can adjust the stiffness with the little turn knob on the top. The camber is dont on the camber plates up front. The camber is diff depending on your setup. |

well when i got them they were all adjusted differently because the guy i got them from had them all corner weighted and set up for autox. i was going to just try to put them on my car and run them like that but the front right was rubbing so i had to change it anyways.
i only got a chance to do the front tonight, and i set it to the recommended settings in the manual. it sits kinda high now and i want to lower it some. the fronts also seem louder now and i think i need to adjust the spring preload to make sure that the springs are always loaded even at maximum suspension travel. like i said i am new to this so i'm not sure if thats the right way to go about it or not. in fact i'm really not sure how much preload i want or how that will affect things. i'm just looking for someone who knows the technical side of adjusting coilovers so i can set mine up with a purpose. on another note, the rear right is clunking really loud. i am going to make sure the strut top bolt is tightened tomorrow, and am not sure what else it could be. that one also makes a swish swish sound when i go over bumps... i heard thats normal but its just strange that its only coming from that one corner. i bought these used with 12k miles on them by the way, and the guy autoxed less than 10 times on them. bryan

they should be fine mine make alot of noise. no idea why one is but maybe its just your imagination.
the way i adjusted the height was by hand. use count how many threads you lower is and use the same all around. the damper should be adjusted for your liking. i set mine all the way on the softest when driving normal and hardest when on track. besides that get a alignment and let them change the camber to your liking. i went somewhere and did -2front -2.5 rear i believe it was. fix the height so that you dont rub and lower it as low as you want. as for the clunking .....make sure everything is tight. i know one of mine was making a weird noise before and i had to turn the shock a little and tighten it up. if you want ...if i ever get to a meet soon lol. or you wanted to jsut stop by i could check out the sound and tell you if its the same thing. |

well everything is pretty much straightened out, except that the right rear strut is louder than the rest. i figured out why it was clunking and fixed it (see the thread: "i cant keep a secret for my life" in general car chat) but the strut is still making a 'swish swish' sound that the others arent making. i need to have it looked at by someone who really knows their way around tein coilovers or suspension in general. i am in the process of looking for a guru with this stuff who can look into and diagnose my problem before i am forced to send it cross country for an overhaul, so if you know anyone who could help please let me know, thanks.

the meet starts around 8 and i'd def be up for a ride. the reason i know something is wrong is that only the one corner is making this sound and its very noticeable so it cant be right. the other 3 are relatively quiet.
i'll give you a ride thursday... i gotta go to Extreme PSI tomorrow to get some fluids for my 30k and they are an authorized Tein dealer so i'm gonna see if any of them know their ish and can take a look at it. oh, and i contacted the guy i bought them from and he's not interested in even splitting the rebuild cost with me. he said they were perfectly fine before and since i didnt have them professionally installed that it must have been my fault bryan
