I'm at work, and I made a major discovery.

I found about 5 gigs of music stored on shared folders throughout my network. I want to put them onto a cd.

Is there anyway to do this? I don't have access to their computers, and I cannot simply drag them onto my mac's desktop.

Is this impossible?

Can you however drag them into iTunes?

I cant see them anywhere else but iTunes. I've searched for them and cannot find them.

If I can play them on my iTunes, in theory, I should be able to see the file, no?

The "where" section under the info (id3 tag) is missing. When I look at info on mp3's on my machine, I can see the root.

Try tracing right to the root.

Is it a total .mac network?

that is what im trying to do, but i dont think i have access where i need to go. how did can i play these files though

iTunes has its own security for its files.

Allows for file masking, so that the folders aren't shared generally/publicly, just accessible through iTunes because it carries the key/protocol/whatever you want to call it, to "see" them.

Can you add them to an iPod??

If you can get them to an iPod you can always copy them from the iPod to wherever/whatever you wanted.

I dont see why an iPod would help, because I cannot add the shared files to a playlist. Maybe I will bring in my firewire cable in tomorrow :P

Just on a fluke that you can get them to an iPod you can rip them from that later.

there is a way. We used to do it at my school. If they have itunes 7 then this doesnt work. But look for ourtunes on google.

Well if its a shared playlist thing it's usually picking up other's itunes accounts and letting you listen to it but not take it off of the computer with you. Kinda like how some of those free music companies work.

I have a very crazy idea for how you can get the music: find the person and ask to burn a cd/download to a USB stick. If they don't give it to you never talk to them again, if they do you have a new friend, hahaha. Although, I have been looking for ways to take it off the playlist since I have the same deal going on at school.

try adding that shared directory to itunes through the preferences menu.

It doesn't work.. atleast not anymore. You use to be able to use ourtunes or another similar program, but they don't work anymore. There might be another way, but none that I know of..
