New Nikon D3

I'm sure most of you have seen and heard about it, but I just wanted to make a thread regarding the new D3. There's an article in the new Popular Photography and it makes me want to find $5,000 in ways that I never have before.

It's also pretty incredible how far digital has come. Being able to shoot at 25,600 ISO? REALLY? In the sample images, at 6,400 ISO it looks like my D70 at 400

For those of you who don't know, it's a full frame, 12.1 MP Nikon, which sounds kind of unimpressive, but that's not the half of it anyway. PP says "...(Nikon) opted for a sensor with larger pixels and thus greater light sensitivity to appeal to pros who want to shoot without flash, increase the range of their flash units, or use a smaller aperture to extend depth of field."

sample images; http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d3/example-images.htm

Discuss.

i saw that article when he first wrote it, and honestly im more impressed with images ive seen with the 300. but those are the only pics ive seen with the d3. i have yet to see other pics than those. and i can careless about high iso. my camera stays at 200-400. rarely do i use anything higher than 400. i just dont need it. but it is nice to see nikon finally make a full frame camera.

Understandable. I've recently just been shooting a LOT of indoor and low light events, and since VR doesn't help much when the subject is moving I've started to get very frustrated with high ISO noise. Plus, being able to crank up the ISO to use faster shutter speeds or widen the DOF would be nice when things are moving around when it's dark.

Honestly even the D200 has enough noise suppression for even the darkest events I shoot. And I have to invest in good glass before I consider a body this expensive... it's like window shopping Porsche's. But the D3 is very cool and very different than what I was expecting from Nikon.

Damn I want this for shooting hockey. The D200 just doesnt cut it in most ice rinks even with my 70-200 f2.8 VR lens.
