Building a garage on the cheap.

I can't go without a garage anymore. All I want is a little area to put a car in and be protected from the rain and debris.

Are there any makeshift garages that are cheap? Anyone build one out of wooden sheets in a week?

I'm looking for ideas and guidance here!

you have to see what your twp says also, dont wanna get the rents into some sheet ya know. other than that its fairly cheap to build one...if you do one without a "garage" door id say around 500 bucks.

on a concrete slab or no? how ghettofabulous do you want it to be? if you just want some shelter i'd look into an oversized tent honestly... probably not all that cheap either but it shouldnt fall apart and you can take it down and move it later if you want, or sell it.

I've heard of people making garages out of discarded transport containers, like those you see on a cargo ship

I probably should have said this, but we already have a two car garage. Problem is, the addition to the house sticks out right in front of the doors, and the roof is caving in. So I have a concrete shell, a concrete slab underneath. The garage would need a new roof and a new door on the opposite side.

You need to post pictures of what you need to do.

If the garage just needs a new roof (1/2 ply and shingles) the price can really be anything depending on the size. Ply would is only a few bucks for a 4x8 sheet. If it needed studs they are only a few bucks a peice as well. Shingles and tar paper get a little more expensive ($32/roll of tar paper) and i forget what shingles go for. A door (1 one garage) can go anywhere from like $250-1 million
