not a bad setup. I'm not such a fan of abit boards or the intel chipset. I'm more a fan of the 680i nvidia chips, but other than that it seems like a nice setup.
I just think the 8800gtx is an overkill piece of machinery at the price, but that's just me. |

Not bad..... im in the middle of a new PC too.... but no where near that....
AMD 4200+ Dual Core (2.2ghz), 2gb RAM, 512 MB ATi vid card, 80gb sata BArricuda (for OS and apps), 250gb WD 7k (storage), and a couple other odds and ends... dont feel like getting into the nitty gritty about it

Nice setup! I would say that a 7200RPM hard drive will be ok, unless you are hardcore about your system. Will you be doing a lot of gaming? I have a 7800GT in my computer and it is enough to drive CS:S at my monitors native RES (1920x1200). You can probably save some money by going with a cheaper graphics card (GT).

barracuda HD is a little loud, but a nice HD. Make sure you got plenty of ventilation and filtration for it, otherwise it will be a dust bunny retirment home in a few weeks.

I used to be so up to date on this stuff. Yet today I went looking for video card and mobo drivers today and I had to dig out the boxes to figure out what I was running. I blame the wrx. I thought computers were expensive.

i've heard that the 10k rpm drive's aren't very reliable because of the high rpm. and with raid if one crash's u basicly lose the info from both. just my two cents, hope it works out for u.

Not too bad, I went with a similar setup but opted for the MSI Platinum motherboard and the dual 8600 geforce cards (two cards for under 250). Not bad though, I love having the Quad core it just kicks ass. My only complaint thought there aren't many programs out there to take advantage of it.

Raptors in raid 0 arent impressive. two 7200 rpm drives is comparable to one raptor.. anything else say two 10k drives in raid will see limitations that are from your ide channels.. if you run sata the performance is still not worth the extra cash...
but nice choice on a video card. those cards are fast as hell .. dispite what people say.. if your a gamer then they r worth the money... as far as the cpu... those early generation quad cores arent worth the money.. id go with a nicer dual core for the time being.. take a look at bench marks on intels quad technology you will see what i mean... overall its a good setup.. your ready for dx10 if you want it however you will have to run vista.. or wait for a hack... just make sure you custom tune the processor and memory and that thing will be fast as hell... Heres my desktop Intel p4 Hyper threading 1mb cash(EE) 800mhz fsb 3.6ghz overclock 4 gb ddr 400 running at neer 500 mhz 2 terrabyte of storage. nvidia 7800 GT 512 mb DDR2 windows xp and slackware linux |

VR, I am inclined to disagree on the Q6600, for 250 it's tough to beat. If you look at the numbers for the benchmarks they don't seem to be that much higher then a dual core. But if you read the articles you'll see there is a lot more to it then the numbers. Also the more programs that come out supporting multiple cores the greater that difference will be.
