No matter what i do my heat shield in my Taurus is rattling like crazy.

It only happens when the car downshifts and in reverse. I tightened it up as much as possible, took it off and cleaned out any rocks, ive even bent it so it would clear but its still sounding like my car is clanking around.

Its a 1993 ford taurus.
any suggestions?

car doesnt get damaged from that?
I was thinking the exact same thing but i wasnt sure if it was a good idea.

Im also worried about fumes. cuz reciently i broke a clamp in the exhaust pipe right before the cats and it smells like crazy as it is.

you sure that the cat isnt melted down? maybe theres a broken piece of catalyst rattling around in there.

Its a taurus, if you rip the heat sheild off, yer not gonna damage anything that isn't crap anyway.....

Tack weld it on each side. Thats what the shop I used to work at did.

touche to that. I just didnt know what the reprocussions where. i guess ill rip it out and just keep it. just in case.

Just bustin stones, but seriously, unless you are sitting in traffic for hours everyday, you won't notice a difference.
I took the insulation off of my firewall, and i have to be sitting on 95 from the DE state border till 322 till i feel any warmth on my foot. Not like that happens often....
