Need an opinion on a first-time digital camera purchase.

I'm starting police academy in 2 weeks and I know there are going to be lots of picture-worthy moments so I wanted to go out and find a decent entry level digital camera. Are there any brands that I should lean more towards/away from? And what else should I look for in terms of specs?

It doesn't need to be anything spectacular. Honestly it will probably take a bit of abuse. I'd like to get a camera that is somewhat slim for easy transport, but also something with decent picture quality and even some video capability.

Here's the one I've been focusing on, seem any good?

Thanks in advance.

If youre going to just take basic pix, get a point and shoot. If you want to move into some other things later on, invest in a better camera right away. Everyone seems to like Nikon, but their DSLRs cost 800+

I've always had a Kodak..only because their easy to use and figure out. I think they're really good...mine takes a bit to open/load when you turn it on. That is quite annoying. I don't know if the newest ones are like that..I've dropped my camera a few times, and my daughter plays with it..and it still works fine. I only paid about 150-180 for mine..and I'm completely satisfied with it.
My advice is actually go to the store and play with them..that's the best way to choose one that YOU'LL like.

for a point and shoot i suggest the canon sd series. Not sure what the latest and greatest version is, but i got my girl friend the sd-680 and it's an awesome camera.

I just picked up a Fuji Finepix F45fd today

It doesn't compare to a DSLR, but its a damn good camera for the money
