New project

I'm going to pick up a '73 Fiat Spider on Thursday. A project car I purchased on ebay for $300. The body looks somewhat clean for a '73. The engine condition is unknown which is making me think of different swaps.... like S2000 drivetrain or one of those pistonless(powerless ) rotary things. Can't wait to get it home!

Those were neat cars. Way ahead of their time. I never really like them too much till I realized how they were setup.

Although, with the money you are going to put into it seems like you could have had a nicely, used miata for less and then modded it.

What value does the spider have for you.

I know if I ever won the lottery I would probably go out and try to buy a really nice DSM first. To me, it is more than just fast, cheap, and reliable (pick two). I'd probably buy DRE's car. Or put aside 20-50k and comb the country and offer to buy a mint, fast, streetable 1st gen.

Because when you have a million in the bank 50k is like 50 bux, now. Right?

The answer is: none of the above. I wanted a cool vintage ragtop for my wife, I used to own one before we were married and I sold it to build a big-block powered Chevy pick up. I always regret selling that Fiat, It was perfect and rust free. Every Spider that comes up locally has rust but the seller wants $4-5k for something that will need body/paint work in 1 year.

The one that I am picking up needs work, but I am only into it for cheap. If it doesnt have a 1600cc engine, I will swap in something different, real different. I'm having thoughts of Caddy Northstar v8's with a nice 6 speed trans. and 4.10 gears. I have to send the yellow Mini back to its owner tomorrow and pick up the Fiat sometime Thursday.
