Was checking in "My eBay" today, when I noticed an alert in the "My Messages" folder. The alert said they accepted my request to change my e-mail....(uh-oh, this can't be good) Immediately I changed it back to my e-mail, changed my current password, changed my safety question, etc....

It's never happened to me before, and I'm well aware of e-mails and other tricks that can compromise your identity on ebay. Anyway, I closed the account and closed my paypal account to be safe.

Does anyone think I did the right thing, or maybe I missed something or could have put myself in greater risk by closing the ebay/paypal accounts?

Just curious, I'm a little pissed off about this, and the e-mail that it was changed to was: smaaker@gmx.net (a german-based e-mail network)

Would appreciate some input, thanks

I'm guessing that you did the right thing by closing your account. It would kill me to do that since I have a spotless record on there.

Mine wasn't 'spotless', it had one bad thing, but it was the result of someone trying to rip me off, and when they got reported for illegal activity, they left me a negative...still pissed nonetheless...and ebay doesn't have a phone number to call either...at least I can't find it

Happened to me once, but it was even weirder.

No email change or anything. Just some douche that posted 40 or 50 auctions on my account. All the "Auction listed" emails showed up and I knew something was wrong.

I immediately changed passwords on my eBay and paypalm accounts. Then cancelled all the auctions, then contacted eBay and let them know.

Haven't had any issues since.

thats what most of 'em do, they do it to list fake auctions and reel in $$$ from people who want a new STI for 5 grand....hmmmm, I'm surprised the person didn't change my password and only my e-mail address....maybe they weren't too smart

On mine, I'm not sure it wasn't software error, since they weren't listing anything that would make them big bucks fast, and they didn't change any of my info.
