Fiat, Part 2 (no no 56k)

Latest update on post 91 on page 5!

Easter got me back to my late great Uncle's house, who is passing me on this Fiat 1200. I posted a thread previously about the car when it was totally covered by junk and I had no idea what it is. here: http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/...ead.php?t=4674

It's a Fiat 1200, supposedly a 1959. Has been sitting for 35+ years, but is in great shape considering, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

I have tons more pictures of the engine/suspension, but that's enough.

Thoughts are initially to keep it. For looks I'd love to claybar/wax it since the paint's half decent, clean up the interior, redo some of the chrome, and take out some of the dents... not bad.

For the engine, I have no idea. Immediately I want to do something like a n/a 13B, but that would mean custom mounts, driveshaft, transmission tunnel, etc. And then for suspension I also am clueless. But it can be a 2-3 year project, I'm in no rush.
Or I could just sell it.

Thoughts, ideas?

From the pics.... I say lets get it running and drive that thing. It is a true survivor. I'll help out any way that I can to bring the motor back to life. Clean the plugs and points, saturate the pistons with oil/crc, dump some fuel in it, and fire it up. Nice car.

definatly restore a car like that, It looks to be in too good of a shape for a car that old to be modded.

Have fun restoring the antique fiat, then sell it to a collector. You'll make a decent lump of change if that is what you are after.

Personally, I think it'd make a cool show car if restored

Do a retro-resto, big white walls and a rack on the top for the boards!

Seriously though, get it up and running first. That will determine what your next steps are.

Restoring does make a lot more sense. I'm curious how much it would take to get it running, but if I could I'd be really happy. My main concern is with current suspension and brakes, they'd certainly need attention, too.

But a retro-resto would be awesome, I hadn't even though of that. It won't take much to have it looking decent, now I just have to get it towed down here (it's ~100 minutes away.) I'll keep you guys posted.

Get that pretty thing running again. Where did you find it? Random barn? For a resto project, original is always best [and wirth most] so maybe keeping it stock is the best course of action. Good luck!

And I found it in my (late) great uncle's garage, and it's mine to keep now. The general consensus is initially just get it working again as it sits, so I think that's what I'll be doing. I need to get it down to my house so I can get it out in some better light on jacks though.

Do a quick mechanical rehab and drive it. It is a rare, true survivor. Leave the dents, scuffs, and scratches alone. I'll help out in whatever way I can. mmmmm.... carbs, distributers with points and condensers, no electronics.....it's a beautiful thing.

i would never sell that thing. mostly because i've never seen one on the road before...actually i've never seen one ever before.

my opinion is to make it look like it just came off of the production line.
