You have all been through this...and it makes you want to go postal!

Here is a little background. A few months ago I went into my local autozone and asked for an exhuast bung, the worker said " for pot?" yeah dude, for pot..thats it.

So today I decide I want to get 7 heat range spark plug. I knew it was a rare plug but I figure what the hell, Ill check the local idiot shop.....bad idea.

I walk in and step up to the parts counter, after 8 minutes of waiting a worker asks me "whatsup". I ask him if they carry NGK plugs, he replies with a no. So based on my previous experience there this is the conversation that follows.

"well I need a colder plug, do you know what that is?"
-dont ask me that. do you know how long I have been doing this for. I payed my first months rent...yada yada yada I have a sandy vagina and you dont know what your talking about.......
"umm, anywa.."
-you dont want a colder step plug, whoever you talked to is wrong, it wont work.
"bu..."
-these newer computers are gona fight you the entire time, your engine is gona blow up. You dont know what you are doing.
"no bu.."
-this isnt the muscle car stuff, times have changed, youve been hanging around pepboys too much havent you.
"no i dont go there....but im gona be heading there in about 5 seconds"

I will never, ever step foot in another autozone, period. I dont care how smart you think you are, or how much you think i dont know. You never insult a customer like they are a 5 year old.

Pepboys kinda went like this.

"hey i need an ngk bkr7e"
-what kinda car?
"no its not made for.....**** it"

the only reason i go to pepboys is b/c my friend works there and knows what she is doing, yes SHE, other than that i usually only go to NAPA because my shop is pretty much a NAPA care center, and they know not to question me and not to screw up, but they're also good people

I used to go to my local mom and pop auto parts store and they got the right part everytime, usually the next day if they didn't have it. Since Advanced Auto and AutoZone came into the area, they were put out of business. Now I am forced to deal with idiot kids and long counter waits while they look at the computer they swear by. It seems like every other time I have to order something, they get the wrong part.

the best was when i ordered a remanufactured waterpump. I picked it up, checked out, opened the box (before getting out of line), closed the box, and returned it...wrong part.

Yeah they fire allthe good people that KNOW what they are talking about or jsut let them quit because of lack of pay or hours to bring in the highschool morons or the oldschool guys who dont know **** about todays cars.I cant tell you how many times somethig like that has happened.Especially if you are a chick. They think we are complete idiots for some reason.I had 2 dealerships tell me a STi Key couldnt be made and work on the GC.. Went to another and they actually called subaru and said it will work.. Bought the key tried it and it worked.Jsut to be a bitch i went to the other 2 dealerships afterwards and Said " it doesnt work huh? guess you jsut lost a sale and prolly many others that would have been refered to you" of course you get the im sorry and excuses and all.. Btu John Kennedy Subaru for you subie guys who need dealership work. They are GREAT and bend over backwards.

I went to Autozone the other day and my conversation went like this:

Me: "Hey, I need to know if you carry stablizer links for an 01 Eclipse"
Lady at the counter: "Okay, one second. Let me punch that up... (stare blankly at the screen for 10 seconds) ... who makes an Eclipse again?"
Me: "Nevermind, I'll just pay for what I have here."

Thats the kinda thing that we at my work get FIRED for lol. Not that I know firsthand, but Its a general rule of work that the customer is first and right, and common sense not to argue with a customer because of the rule of work. I remember that instance with the waterpump..and the install was held back for a few days.

If you want some funny looks from the other side of the parts counter....tell the dude you have a 1968 Kaiser M715.

Anymore, if NAPA is not open, I go to Pep Boys and raid the parts area without supervision to get what I need.

I only go to NAPA or People I actually know at auto parts stores. The guys at napa are usually old timers but they know what they are doing. I can even get parts for motors, not car makes and models, with them.

Brilliant.

Just out of curiosity...what age was the person working the counter?

Yea, Napa is awesome. There used to be a "tuner" and a "4x4" shop on Bus. 30 near Coatesville, but i believe that has since closed down. A shame..I don't know many shops that carry parts like that around me.

Autozone in levittown is the same way....trying to tell you what you need, what is what, etc....I order most parts direct now, less hassle
