Rumsfeld Resigns

I don't know who this new guy Robert Gates is. But, I would have liked to have seen Colin Powell replace Rumsfeld.

discuss.

Now that is news!

Im a republican but seriously, Bush keepign him around was just rediculas. I agree, I would have liked to see Colin get the job but something tells me that he might be making a run in 08, atleast I hope he does anyway.

im gonna have to look into this new dude.

Thats a smart move for republicans too, it doesnt allow the dems to take credit for removing him from his position. Good pre-emptive strike.

Thanks god. Mr, Gates has tons of middle east experience. He was big in cia in the mid east...good or bad?...i dont know but we will see and he gets better ratings from friends of mine who KNOW politics very well. Bush's recnt comments are classic.

but wait,.. rummy has the PLAN!!!

glad to see him go,.. this war needs a new approach. i dont know anything about the new guy, BUT the one article i just read on him lists him as a "close Bush family friend". That makes me wary... i think they need to lay off the giving jobs to friends for a little after the whole katrina thing, and the guy planted in nasa that got caught editing their website.

Yeah, it's true that he is a family friend, but he also served during Bush Sr.'s term as deputy director of the CIA. It's intersting though that when he was nominated for director of CIA in 1987, but withdrew the nomination b/c everyone thought he was involved with the arms deal with Iran during the Iran-Iraq war. (he probably was, but that's cool cuz that shows he's a clever badass and willing to get the job done anyway he can.)

None of you people even gave a reason why you're glad to see him go. Obviously none of you know what his job entitles and what he actually does.

He did a great job and there won't be anyone in the near future better than him. Your cheers for the new guy make me feel sorry for you all.

he's been known as a secretary of defense since '75, and has served well in many different positions. The fact that he's close to the Bushes, and your judgement based on that shows great ignorance as to what he's accomplished in his career.

I'm pretty dissapointed in your post. Keeping him around? No-one else could do his job. Smart move? This wasn't a move for the republicans, but for the guy himself. He's old, served his time and tired of the media BULL****. If I were him, I'd be tired of serving my country that long. The dems are still gonna claim responsibility for his resign, so give me a break. Them and the media were the last straw.

Who cares about the newguy? As long as Bush appointed him, no-one is gonna like him! They'll find faults the second he's appointed.

ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME?

You should watch the CNN Presents on him. Sure he's done some good as for as reorganize the military and logistics. But, the bad far out-way the good.

This arrogant asshole threw out an invasion plan for Iraq that was put together of months and months of tedious research. He spent very little time planning for the occupation of Iraq. In addition, it can be argued that he frabricated the evidence that lead up to the Iraq invasion.

Don't even try to argue with me that Rumsfeld should have stayed when retired generals were calling for his resignations and active Generals were starting to disagree with him!

And this forum does need another political thread. Most of the people on this site, and the rest of country, need some enlightenment when it comes to politics.

CCN Presents, now THERE'S a reliable source of information....you know he actually works WITH the generals when planning these things? Put THEM on the pot with him! Be fair at least! Blame Rumsfeld, I see how it is, he's got the head title!

IF there was evidence, he'd already be out, but there isn't! Nice try! LOL

No, Bush is just old fashioned and doesn't throw his friends under the bus even when they majorly screw up. Remember that guy who ran FEMA, he defended him for a couple days, despite a HUGE amount of evidence that he wasn't doing his job, or even watching the television (claiming he didn't know about the conditions we were all watching).

It's a moot point though as the war in Iraq is all about money anyway.

Yea buddy, IRAQ is all about money...media taught you well...sheesh

I don't know much about FEMA, or how they're expected to prepare for disasters of indescribable proportions, but its like saying we didn't do much after 9/11 to protect our country...we were caught off gaurd in the same way and mistakes are definitely not uncommon. Don't try and switch gears on me with the FEMA stuff, this is strictly about Rumsfeld. Let's keep it On-topic

There are alot of people who can do his job. One that was just stated, colin powell or bring back Swartzkoff.

Also, he was fired, he didnt resign. Bush did it because he had too. If he kept him in office the Dems would come in and have a vote of no confidence to have him removed anyway. It was going to happen, either Bush does it or the politicians do it.

A politician doesnt resign, especially not one in his position, because they are "sick of the media". They also dont resign because they are afraid of what the incoming politicians may say about them. He has been in office for a number of years with multiple administrations, he un-doubetly has a thick hide and can handle the critisism. Hes not running from the Dems, he believed in what he was doing and believed his idea was best. He is gone because americans turned last night into a call for change.

When things arent working you need to shake things up. A way to do that is inject new life into the situation. Thi is what he is doing to try and retain some credibility in his remaining 2 years.

And you've bought into the BS the white house spouts so I'd call that a draw. Communist wars aside, every use of American force over the last century or so has been to in some way get us more favorable economic conditions. Also about the only one that hasn't come back to bite us is when we took over Hawaii.

FYI FEMA stands for Federal Emergency Management Agency, it's what they're supposed to do, manage disasters that no one else can. It is a bit off topic but it supposed to make my point that the Bush Administrations management of porblems.
