Mazda GLC + Race motor = FUN

She finally left the shop tonight...open header!

Car weighs around 1700 pounds, and the motor feels to have around 140-150 horses (Up from 75!)

The car misfires quite a bit when the gas isn't hammered on, but that can be worked out. I'm just glad it's alive. Thanks again for your help, Jon!

Here's some video of the voyage home.

Considering its 75 horses stock, and the hp doubled with a few NA mods, I'd say thats pretty good for a carbed economy car motor. (I can understand your grumpiness with your current situation, bro)

I don't even know if it has a rev limiter, and the car has no tach. The weakest part of the car is the transmission (original owner went through 2 transmissions, etc.), so I'll have to be careful with it.

Good work, that is not easy to do, but I agree with the loose handle on the race engine moniker. Why not just swap a stock honda engine in that makes that much HP?

This = "race engine"

What you have =/ above engine

I say race motor because it was built by a Mazda sponsored team, Team Highball back in the 80's to be used in whatever kind of racing they did. All the emissions stuff is blocked off or removed. The header is a lot larger than stock, and polished inside. The motor has a custom cam, you can feel that it wants to be driven in the high rpm range. It also has a Weber 2 barrel carb and a ported intake manifold. When I say race motor, I mean it WAS raced, and it's not street legal.

I got the motor for $300 shipped, and the car was supposed to be my daily driver, as I already have a Honda project that's out of control.

It is what it is, a fun little project car.

The car is currently running around 12 degrees advance at idle. I spoke with the original owner who Mike purchased the motor from, and was told that it could be bumped up to 25 degrees advance on 93 octane. I'm not sure how true this is as I have no knowledge of these engines, but until we use a timing light with inductive advance, there is no way to properly advance it from where it is now. I'd be weary considering there is no way to hear any audible knock until that exhaust system is hooked up.
