::: Guys I Need Your Help :::

So today I found out one of my good friends rolled his civic and is paralized from the waist down. He broke his arm and his back in 6 places. They arent sure yet if he'll be able to walk again.
We thought he had just been M.I.A for awhile since he does that sometimes... its been a month and a week and he finally decided to call some of us.
He has 2 civics and an 89 mustang which was his pride and joy. He did a trans/motor swap and tons of other things to it.. and he just started getting into the civic scene too. He was going to the Automotive Technology Institute right near me in warminster and was close to getting certified.

He seems sad of course but a little optimistic telling me how he's getting really strong in his good arm and can lift himself up ect ect...

I'm going to see him on wednesday and I want to bring him a few things seeing as he'll be there for awhile. I want to know what you would want if you were in his situation. Please be considerate about it... I really have no clue.
I know guys dont like flowers and teddy bears and all that stuff. haha...
Like car magazines? or would that be depressing... some pumpkins and candy?? gosh I dont know. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

it would be hard to figure out how he would feel with certain things based on how he is at the moment. If he is optimistic and possibly not depressed or something, I bet he'd enjoy watching some car videos or something. magazines would of course be good, and maybe a book if he will be there for a long time.

I say a decent book or maybe some movies to watch. Some snack foods would probably be cool also.

i was in a similar situation for a little bit, i had to get a back surgery resulting in me being less than mobile for a bit. i could honestly say gifts and everything were great but i was just happy with the company. bring some of your friends along and just hang out with him for a while.

I'd like to say I'm sorry to hear about your friend. Like said above friends are def your best bet. But anything like books, movies, puzzle, games....ect. Just anything to keep themselves occupied and there mind off the situation.

Pretty much what they said and I would say stay there for a bit and watch some of the movies with him that you give him. Hope he recovers.

How paralized? Porno might help out alot if he can still "relate". Videos and mag's, bible? Good luck. I had a friend that broke her neck in a road race (bicycles) last year. It was very very sad. A Beautiful lady that joined our team and was just to inexperienced to be racing 50+mph down a hill in Vermont.

I’m not sure I would want anything that would remind me of the accident. When I had the “fear of God” put into me, I wasn’t interested in thinking about cars at all. In fact, I sat in a chair in my living room calmly taking in everything that had transpired. I was thinking about friends, my friend’s children, however, cars were the last thing on my mind.

You are more than enough. Being there for him is what he’ll remember most. Bring some games, cards, puzzles, etc, and play along with him. Keep his mind on the good things, friends, family, laughter, etc.

Depending on your friend I would love someone to come visit me with a stack of Sports Illistrated bathing suit mags and a six pack.

Just make sure you take the pulse OX meter off of his finger if he decides to drink the beers. Its gonna be a little clip that is tapped over one of his fingers prolly on the broken arm, it will most likely be glowing red. You wouldnt want any nures running into the room cause his pulse ox dropped too low and hes just getting a buzz lol.

every bit of hospitol stays suck, especially at jefferson! the doctors/surgeons are top notch but the nursing staff is sub par. my physical therapists nickname was "the tank" she wanted me to do things like stand up and walk around after a joint was removed from my back. i told her shes crazy and staying in bed. ultimately she made my friends leave and me stand up and walk around.

haha yeah so i visited him today. It was sad to hear everything he's been feeling and to see him like that, but me and my friend kate had him laughing the whole time we were there.
Suprisingly he just wanted us to push him around in his wheel chair and sit by the window and stuff. He's soooooo SICK of his room. He's been in it for over a month, I guess I'd be sick of it too. So thats mostly what we did.

He talked about cars a lot too and how if he doesnt get his legs back he's gonna get those hand controls, talking about doing burnouts with them and stuff. It was great to see him thinking positively.

He's already ready to be discharged but his problem now is that they cant find a rehab to place him in. He's either too young for an old people's rehab, or not paralized ENOUGH for some. It sucks. He's stuck til they find somewhere. He has a ''social worker'' thats supposed to find him somewhere, but she hasnt found anywhere and he's allowed to go now. Hopefully they find somewhere a little closer to home or out of the city so we can visit him more often.

We're going back tomorrow night to decorate his room for halloween. He said itd be a nice change and more to look at.

He even made the joke today that he was superman last year for halloween, had the tights, cape, and all.. and that he wanted to wear it again this year. I told him to wear it anyway.. then he made the whole christopher reeves joke while sitting there in his wheelchair. Good to see him laugh.

Saw the pics of his car though, terrible. It would make anyone want to drive like an old woman. He said to make sure I always wear my seatbelt though, he wishes he did.
