BYE BYE Cam Only.............

more bad news, when installing new metal header gaskets, the one header bolt broke inside

so now i cant go for the cam only list, and i didnt make it onto the SI list soo its kinda a bummer. im not gonna take the heads off again to stay cam only, unless a great deal falls in my lap.

but i guess the good news is that im going to get 243 castings and port them and have a H/C setup now.

PUSSY!

j/k man, good luck with it. f-getting on the lists, just have fun with the car and see how far you can go with it.

fyi- there were some GOOD budget heads floating around that nick/matt harris mentioned to me- forget the exacts but they were very inexpensive and flowed killer #'s. maybe the ones you are getting, dunno

could have been either one of us that broke that bolt... it made no sense - some of them would go right in finger tight, others almost felt like they were cross threaded and wouldn't go in for anything. either way, it sucked. lots of scrapes and sore muscles for nothing! but i guess if he ends up getting more power out of it then it wasn't all for not.

but he's not likely to stop caring about getting on those lists, so its pointless to try

There's more to a good head than flow numbers. ;)

Sorry to hear, big fan of your crazy fast, but not heavily moddified car.

Well in all fairness, it IS a nearly 4000 pound (with driver) car...and 12.7 isn't exactly high 12s either.

Umm, and exactly how quick/fast should a bolt ons/cammed/geared LS1 F-body WITH A BOTTLE be going by the way?

Why? Because people in glass houses shouldn't be throwing stones...maybe Ed's car should've gone a bit quicker (and maybe it still will) with that BABY CAM and stock exhaust that he has but regardless, someone who's only gone high 11s with a potentially mid to high 10 second set up (cam + nitrous) is certainly NOT in a position to criticize ANYONE.

Deep 11s? Not even close in such a heavy car that's so hard to launch well with a manual...the all out full bolt ons/cam only LS1 GTO record is only 11.8s (in good air no less) and it's an automatic with the advantages of a high stall converter and gears.
Ed's car is only slightly off the mark for the few mods it has and not to make excuses but his clutch was shot at that point as well.

They should also swirl the air in a such a way as to mix the air and fuel for a more complete burn. Then there's a properly shaped combustion chamber that doesn't have any hot spots that could cause pre ignition. There's also an issue on NA engines that you don't want the head to flow too well at low lift so as to prevent air going back out of the cylinder when the valves are closing. It's really complicated stuff.
