MSD Ignition Options.

Quoted from MSD's website...this is their product selection for my specific application.

(I used the GSR motor...because that's the head I'm using for LS//VTEC)

Ignition:
Option 1: PN 6300
Option 2: PN 6320
Option 3: PN 6350
Harness: PN 8887
Coil: PN 8207
Not a direct factory replacement.
Note: May require alternative mounting and wiring.
Wire Set: PN 32349
Cap: PN 82933
Extreme Rotor: PN 8092
Extreme Wire Set: PN 35349
Distributor: PN 8488
MSD Ignition Driver PN 6305 required.
MSD Blaster SC Coil, PN 8235 required.
(If using an MSD igniton with the 8488, & 6305 an alternate coil can be used.)
Ignition Dirver: PN6305
For use with the MSD Pro-Billet Handa/Acura Distributors only.
Blaster SC Coil: PN 8235
Designed for use with PN 6305 Ignition Driver, or MSD Ignition only.
Not for use with stock ignition.
Universal Wire Set: PN 32449

So what I'm wondering is...I need a MSD setup (assume I have NOTHING right now...no dizzy, no cap, no rotor, no wires, NOTHING; except for NGK plugs) that has:

- Neutral Rev-Limiter (aka stutter-box)
- Driving Rev-Limiter (because my ECU revs to 9600...and my LS doesn't)

That's it really. No crazy ignition advancing//retarding...oh and a dizzy...I'm still using the old LS one. (Non-VTEC).

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN MY SITUATION.

(I don't wanna go overboard...money IS an issue...for now )

Why are you after an MSD setup? To be honest with you, there really is no need. Stock ignition has been proven over and over again at well over 500hp. Save your money and put it towards something else.

I agree...
and a stock ecu has a rev limiter...
and are you talking abot a 2 step type limiter?
maybe get your obd1 ecu chipped, run a stock bin, and change the rev limits/2step.

You will lose hp with any msd product. The vehicle will not run as clean or smooth. We gained over 30whp on my personal car with removing the msd coil. We have made over 650whp on stock ignitions.Like dan said save your money and put it else where. you also could have your ecu chipped with a fuel managment to set up your revlimiter.Ie. neptune or hondata.

Hrrm...does anyone have a ROM//reader or burner then?

I have an authentic Spoon ECU right now and personally don't want to loose it.

i doubt you have a spoon ecu, but instead a normal p28 with a "spoon" map. Most likely its a stock fuel/rpm, with a quicker vtec crossover (if you have vtec)and a higher rev limit.

people sell this crap on ebay and really does nothing for the car, since all tunes vary from one car to another.

I do have a ROM burner, and can burn basemaps for uberdata or crome. you can most likely find a spoon style map for crome or something, then edit it, and add 2-step, rev limit to your choosing, check engine shift light, etc

How would you loose power with MSD, isnt it putting out more spark energy and voltage than a stock ignition ? I understand gains will be minimal in most cases but ive never heard of negative affects. But i could be wrong.

Related at this point to only honda. An msd coil or aftermarket coil has a higher resistance valve. This being unwated resisitance, from adding the resistance in line with ignition will cause in most cases decreased delived spark to each cylinder. even though the msd system will deliver more spark at each cylinder the spark will not be as accurate due to the addition of unwated resistance. As a general tests we installed an msd external coil on my car and made several dyno pulls the car would make good soild power but the igniton tables would be off slightly. We installed a factory distributor and modified the tables to work with a stock distributor. The vehicle made 30hp more at the same boost and ran 100% cleaner.

just wondering, why do you have the cam gears adjusted? have you dyno'd it to see if it helps or is it a butt dyno thing?

if you want the most power out of your setup, you should look at getting it tuned.

I could burn you basemaps and such with options enabled/disabled, but that's about it.

Would this still be the case with the ignition box teamed with the coil ?

The msd ignition boxes on a honda w/f/m are pretty much just acting as a rev limiter to which chip is installed. If your not running a f/m than it will give you more spark advance but for the money your to spend on a box you would be better off buying a f/m system. You could have someone chip the ecu and purchase a good f/m and still be under the cost of an msd box. My advise for anyone looking to add an msd component to any honda under 650hp is steer clear.
