Failing to yield for a stop sign

I recently got a ticket for failing to yield for a stop sign. My Srt4 was acting up on my way home from school very badly but I didn't know when I could speak to the officer since I never got pulled over before. The throttle was sticking and not responsive at all. If I came to a complete stop the car would've died and I would be stranded. So I slowed down as much as possible then it started to die on me. I tried giving it a little gas then all I see is the lights behind me. Hopefully i get something by tomorrow morning since that's when I go to court. Would this be a valid point? I've never had any type of trouble with the law in general.

Negative. All vehicles on the road have to be in safe and working condition and be able to come to a complete stop at any time. Technically, you could have been cited for an unsafe motor vehicle, too, so just be happy you got the stop sign.
