Lehigh Valley mountain biking

I do a decent amount of riding in the Lehigh Valley area on my MTB and my BMX. We headed up there this weekend to do a few runs down South Mt. and I wanted to test out my GoPro so I took some footage and threw this vid together real quick.

Awesome stuff. Looks like so much fun, I'm jelly- Its been some time since I had my mountain bike out hoping around. I'm hoping to buy a new one with tax returns if only to get some exercise.

Nice! Looks like a good time, and the trails look really fun, too. I really need to get a new mountain bike and get back out on the trails.

The trails need a little love (tough in the winter), but they're still really fun. Hoping to get some more runs in during the next few weeks.

Great stuff there! I've ridden there a couple of times and there are some big jumps there. I'm mostly a roadie and cross country mtb rider now, too old to crash like I used too. I used to have a Santa Cruz Bullit w/ Marzocchi Super T on it. it weighed about 40 lbs, sucked climbing with it (but was good training for cx mtb races), but it was unstoppable on the downhills. There's some killer dh stuff in Jim Thorpe if you know where it's at. Take those bikes to Platekill and do chairlift runs one day too, that place is ridiculous.

Is that going down the mountain towards stabler/lehigh or the other side coming down near the river out the back of fountain hill?

I know there's DH stuff in Jim Thorpe, we just ride all of the trails there and really stick to XC rides when we visit.

The first run was down towards the ball fields near the golf course, second run was past the school.

I was gonna rebuild a Rockhopper I bought about 6 years ago, but i think it will end up costing a little much for the frame. Is there any bikes around 600 that are worth it? Or should I just add new comps to the Rockhopper and in the future buy a new frame and swap all the gear?

If 600 is what you are willing to spend on comp/new bike then you could go either way. There are plenty of hard tails out there that you could pick up for that amount that will work well. Unless your frame is cracked or something you can source new components for cheap and build your hopper for around 600.

You won't get anything great for 600, but it would be ok if you're not doing a lot of hard riding. Basically the forks suck and will be shot after a season or two and the derailleurs are cheaper so they'll wear out a lot faster than something on a 1000 bike. If you're looking to do some off road stuff and bike path riding then you should be fine. You get what you pay for, the fork on my bike would cost over 600 new, but I know that it's going to hold up to lots of abuse.

Original plan was to buy something and slowly build it to my style, eventually transfer it all over to a a new frame if it comes to it.

I'm looking to spend closer to a grand. Tuckahoe has a Jamis Exile Comp on ebay right now discounted. I'm debating calling them up- I was looking at a Scott Scale earlier today, gonna go look at a Felt Nine over the weekend and a Cannondale. Was kinda thinking a Trek Mamba as hey are the most local shop and it doesnt look half bad, but who knows. I'm kinda running bike research overload right now.

While I was at a shop in Vineland today the guy handed my a flyer with all the south jersey off road spots, hopefully put it to use this summer-

I have a bike for sale. I posted it in a sale thread awhile back. I'm flex on the price.

Anyone need a new helmet? I bought a SixSixOne Recon last year and rode with it twice and decided that it didn't fit my dome the way I wanted and I got a different one. It's clean, no damage, and the inner pads have been washed so no funk is present. It's practically new. $60 takes it.
