Your ultimate affordable sports car?

Whatever interpretation of a sports car you may have, share it, and your affordable wet dream car. Share with us why you think it's the best car for the money. It can be a 2,000 dollar car modded, or an off-the-lot car at the top of this budget.

Part of my reason for doing this is my friend now has a good job and is preparing to settle down and wants a toy so I'll send this to him and give him ideas.

Budget will be up to $20,000

I dont think this is one of those "What should I buy" threads. I think its more along the lines of "If YOU had 20k to spend on a sports car that would make YOU happy, what would you buy"

My dream car has always been a supra, my uncle had one and I loved it and ever since then I have had an obsession for them. Finding one under 20k in good shape that hasn't been modded would be pretty hard, but that is my affordable dream car.

Isn't that basically the definition of a 'what should I buy' thread? :-)

There isn't anything under $20k that to me is a 'affordable wet dream car'.

To you, there may not be. To others, their dream sports car could be a green charger.

If I could stretch it a 930 with a 4g63? Wouldn't say dream car, but would be fun to drive. I could probably source a 930 shell and 4g63 + goodies for less than 20k. I would love a RWB 930 chassis and 4g63, but that would be way over budget.

Without too much thought, my initial response is Evo or a BMW of some kind. Maybe a Mustang with full suspension package.

An old Porsche 911, the one's that aren't really worth anything still, like a late 70's through mid 80's, preferably one without a whale-tale. To me that's the affordable dream car, and the last "true" sports car. You can get one in good shape in targa trim between 15-20k, and they are said to be one of the best drivers cars, very unforgiving, but extremely rewarding. If I had a little bit of cash left over, I'd re-do the suspension if it was tired, and buy a nice set of wheels and tires.

This would be one of my top choices as well. Although I like the whale tail. However, the whale tail usually means its a 930 which would mean probably over budget.

Probably a C5 z06.

you get a lot of bang for your buck. or maybe even a base model c5 w/ thousands put into it, and probably getting better all around performance than a z06.

and this is definitely a "what should i buy" thread.

double the budget and you're looking at 2006ish z06 territory.

Elise prices are getting down there for higher mileage 2005s. And by higher miles i mean 40k haha. Still the greatest drivers car I've ever driven

As much as i want to say 911 there's nothing I would touch with a ten ft poll under 20k no matter the year.

Built miata would be crazy with 20k into it..

None for under $20,000. Way too low to be able to get a dream car.

Ultimate Affordable now-a-days is $30,000. In this class I would take the BRZ.

If it were available I would spend more and get the STi BRZ. Otherwise this:

E46 M3, 996 Porsche, I've seen hooked up TT G35s for under $20k.

Evos, STis, the list goes on and on.....

E55 AMG, SL500, 335i?...Audis S4, even Maserati Coupes and Spyders are in that range. $20k can get you alot of car today.
