Can I have my DL in PA and car registered in NJ?

Sad to say that TriStateTuners will be going offline sometime around Oct. 15, 2024. After 20 years online, times have changed and its no secret that the forum's activity level has slowed to a crawl. Its been an incredible run with so many amazing friendships formed and community events held, plus all of the technical knowledge and entertainment shared online. I know I'm not the only one who has had both their personal and professional life impacted and improved significantly from this community, and I'm happy to have been a part of something so special. Thank you to so many people who volunteered to the community -- the entire moderating team, behind the scenes IT support, those who organized events, and everyone who contributed online to this unique local car community. I hope that many years after the prime of TST, many of you are still enjoying cars even if we are all "grown up" now. Please take the time to revisit your member journal and reminisce, or browse any other parts of the forum. Maybe reach out to an old friend or two and make plans to grab dinner and catch up. The timeline may change slightly but I wanted to get this notice up as quickly as possible to give everyone a bit of advance notice. Thanks for everything, TROLL

So I have always kept my NJ license and registration because I never really wanted to keep living in Philly. Now I have been here a while though and would like to vote this year, so it appears I need at least a PENNDot voter ID card. According to the sheet, it looks like I will need to give in my NJ license even for just the ID card, so I figure I could just give in and get a real PA license. My issue is that I don't want to register my car in PA because it needs work to pass inspection and I can't afford that work right now. My NJ inspection is still good for another year. Is it ok to have PA license and NJ registered car?
