http://autoholics.com/2012/04/20/New...n+the+Autobahn

I'm sure some of you are getting this in your cardomain newsletter now.
I feel bad for the dog more than the people. Looks like the engine and one headlight is still good.

AUTOBAHN. If it was an unrestriced stretch of roadway there's no reason why he SHOULDNT be doing that speed. you can die at 200, 160, 20 for all it matters. point is, some careless asshole almost took 3 lives, and also proved that the germans are building cars about as safe as they come. what production car do you know that can take a hit like that at ~186 and everyone lives away from it>

doesnt matter what road it is. so it makes it acceptable because its the autobahn? just because you can doesnt mean you should.

Not a vw, cuz it can't hit 186 and they suck.

For $90,000+ I better be safe. You get what you pay for with BMW (I hate BMW by the way), and that is arguably one of the best vehicles to grace the roads, especially a M model. So yes they are safe, they better be for how much they cost. They are also loaded with technology, it's just sick the amount of technology in these cars, and most of it is there to keep you safer.

So he is an asshole because he changed lanes, yet the guy driving the M5 was not an asshole by zooming by cars at 200mph?

nascars drivers dont catch a bunch of **** for going 200mph on a track (which is also LEGAL) even if they crash. Why tear this guy apart? Regardless if he crashed or not, he didn't break any laws.

That is the same thing as saying nascar drivers are "stupid" for going that fast on a track that ALSO allows that speed.

I don't see the difference. If somebody wants to obey the law and enjoy their $80k+ car by going fast, let them.

Do you 16 year olds have any idea what the autobahn is? It's not some plane jane road. It's a specially designed road - originally for german military and police. It almost never gets potholes cause it's 5x thicker than a normal road, has a maximum slope of like 3 degrees and I forget the minimum radius for the bends. Think of it like driving down an airport runway strip. It also has special laws such as it's illegal to run out of gas, to be in the left lane if you're not passing, and to display a special placard if you don't have tires rated for the max speed of your vehicle. Also, you know that when you're in an unrestricted speed limit area, to make sure no one is behind you when changing lanes. It's not like they were cruising down a 55mph road, and a car doing 200 came outta no where. All this means that it is actually one of the safest roads in the world with one of the least amount of deaths per million miles driven. It's also why almost every high end sports car is tested by their manufacturer on that road.

Although the BMW driver did **** up by passing at that speed, he wasn't wrong, or careless for doing that speed to begin with.

a car traveling at 200 mph does come out of no where. the car is traveling at over 3 miles per minute and covering almost 300' per second.

according to wikipedia, the average speed is 150km/h... which is, according to google, 93mph.

200mph on the autobahn is absurd and unexpected.

when the average is less than half the speed this person was going, how is that not unexpected? not many cars are capable of reaching those speeds? i highly doubt the typical german hops in their jetta and expects to be passed by a vehicle going those speeds.

200 mph is absurd in an uncontrolled environment/setting http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/absurd
