UTI anyone?

So I'm looking into enrolling in UTI this spring and was just wondering if there are any graduates or current students on the forum, and some of the good or bad experiences

75% of people say its a waste. 25% like it. I think a few people have asked this.question before. Some good threads floating around if you can find them.

i graduated last year.. its a good school but there are alot of dumbass kids who think their hondas are racecars and think they know everything.

There has been at least 2 or 3 threads on this. The consensus from the last two threads is that UTI isn't worth the money and you'd be better off interning at a local shop for experience.

I've head this a lot but I think UTI would look better on a application and I would get certified in everything. I searched but didn't find any threads on it. So what I'm getting is the experience isnt bad but the people are

Certs rarely help you get in most places, they are looking for experience.

Your best bet to get into a place, and then allow them to send you to school to get certified. Overall, UTI is seen as a gimmick school by most employers.

I went to uti, graduated July of 07. It was a joke. Your better off going to atc, then you will graduate with your emission and state license, that's not included in the cost of uti.

I think there's an ATC campus near UTI in Exton. I went to CCP for their automotive program. If it makes a difference, you get an associate's degree if you complete the course compared to a certificate and it's a good amount cheaper.

i have some friends that are at uti now and some that have went to uti and wyotech. we all had auto classes in high school and they say its a waste of time and over priced. if your looking for somewhere thats worth your time and cheap check out northampton community college's auto program. I'm currently a student there and i love it. the teachers are great and are actually trying to teach you things in depth that will help you with your career. and you graduate with an associates degree. it costs about 14k for the 2 years as long as you don't fail any classes. lots of work study time and financial aid available. only down side is spring semester has already started and 1st year student classes don't start til august. but in my opinion after talking with people who went to those highly advertised schools. its a waste of your money and time. any other northampton grads that can speculate?

Should just go to a University and get a degree in something else your interested in, where you have a way better chance of making good money. Then you can take that money, and take weekend courses to learn anything you want about cars.

I have people come to my garage every day telling me they are in school at uti ETC, And it's a waste, Or a joke. You don't need schooling to work/run/own a shop. The best experience is hands on experience from people who are actually running a garage and making money doing it... Not a school where there are a ton of kids, Some of which don't even care about learning.

^^^ thats very true. to be honest some of my class mates could careless how they do. there are a few others including myself that are there to learn and do what ever it takes to understand. like a few of my class mates you could also find that you hate working on cars as a career and just like them as a hobby, trust me if you think working on your own car is a pain in the ass. other peoples cars are way worse most of the time. you will see it all, from 83 hyundia accents that smell like shmegma and moldy fries or beautiful german luxury cars. your have to really love cars to do it everyday, because sometimes you'll get kicked while you're down, and then have your nuts stepped on, and other days you'll be have it made in the shade

With todays trendy schools (UTI, Wyotech, ITT-Tech, University of Phoenix and so on) you're pretty much getting a fast food education. The representatives will throw you their sales [itch, get you hungry, telling you that the school will help you land your dream job and hopefully sooner than later you find out that the education that you received there could have been obtained from either ____________ for dummies books or actual experience in a shop as a mechanic helper. (shop whore) What is sad, there's suckers born every minute. IMO when it comes to picking a school. don't go to one that spends money on advertisements. For they most of the time are focusing on the image, not a hearty education.

I have worked in a shop and that's how I discovered my love for cars, it's just getting harder and harder to find a job that will hire an 18 cause of insurance issues is there any recommendations on where to look?
