the cool thing about the TDIs is that they all have the same aftermarket stuff as the gas counterparts except the engine stuff.

Modding a diesel engine is a little different . TDI guys will mostly go OEM plus, of European spec. In europe ~50% new car sales are diesel.

I am came from a 350 chevy truck. and I needed a better fuel mileage car, though, I like to mod. So I went with the TDI.

what you can do to a TDI:

-Straight Pipe exhaust. no cat nor muffler. No emissions in PA for diesels, got to love it. not much HP gain but faster Spool up
-larger fuel injectors
-ecu/ecm reporgramming
-larger turbos though Garrett VNT series, allows fast spool up since my Redline is 4700 RPM.
- propane injection
- nitious mister kit to keep the EGTs down
-limited slip differentals
-upgraded axels.
-clutch upgrades
-turbo inlet pipes
-FMIC
-boost controller (Though, to control spikes) I was stupid to run an agressive boost ecu program with no MBC, and blew my stock turbo spiking @26psi.

My 2003 was the last year the TDI ran off one fuel pump. There has been more upgrades for my type fuel system then the newer ones (TDI PD). Though, that is changing now. 2004 and newer have individual "pump injectors"

It's my daily driver, I love it, fun to drive. some days I wish I had more power but I like what I can get out of it. performance and economy. Hard to find a car that can to both. These cars last, a fully broken in TDi happens ~60K miles. Where I am now. MY car is considered still young.

I became a fan of diesels after test driving Jetta and Touraeg diesels. The Touraeg was a beast with the 550 lb ft of torque. One vw tdi I would love to see come to the states is the gti tdi.

Honda has a civic diesel over in Europe with a 6 speed manual and 250lb ft of torque and a hatch also. If that thing ever came across the pond to the states and I could afford it, sign me up.
