Car Importing in the tristate?

looking for a car importing place/shop in the tristate area does anyone know of any? ive been talking to a import service in north jersey (if i remember correctly) called '' afterlight import service''. The dude seams nice and knowledgeable about what hes talking about but it just seams sketchy. So like i said if anyone knows of a import service around the tristate area ( im from NJ) your input would greatly be appreciated.

There is no car that you can import, register, inspect, and insure legally. Thats the ****ty truth.

For track only use... different story.

Calling any business or even asking "how" will prove nothing but frustrating (to them) because they've been asked a million times!! That, and why give out info on the process and more importantly their contacts that took years to gather and get right to possible competition?

-You looking to import FULL car's and multiple cars? (this can prove very difficult if not impossible ESPECIALLY if you plan on the cars being for street use)

-Just want to buy and part the cars? (You'd be way better off having the cars cut then shipped or contact some junk yards in Japan to fill containers w/ parts and cross your fingers you don't get sh**, or, fly to Japan and hand pick)

-You starting a Business doing either of the above? (if so your first steps should be contacting a Import/customs broker keeping the above in mind and don't let them say it's easy)

If your just looking for one specific car you may get lucky finding one already in the states. If you just want a track car call Canada (they can import them no problem, but you will most likely not be able to register it in the states unless you have a lot of money)

I don't import cars. I only know who to talk to and can help arrange and broker a deal between you and the people you need to speak to.

Do I import cars? No
Can I help you get something your looking for? Maybe
Can you finance anything? No
How long does it take? Depends on what you want and/or your budget and when something comes along

I will be more than happy to go over it if you take the time out to come by and ask me in person.

If you don't have any money, and have to save, it probably isn't feasible to import a car or by something "exotic".

As stated above, people ask all the time, few and far actually commit once they have an understanding of what is involved.

Don't waste your time and mine if you aren't dead set, willing to give your left nut and have the budget.

If your serious,

Step 1- call
Step 2- come by
Step 3- have your finances ready

If 1 out of the 3 isn't done/cant be done, your wasting your time and mine lol.

How do I know how much I need to "save" up? Pride performance is about 3 hours away from me, driving 3 hours with thousands of $ in cash isnt exactly my style. I usually like to know what im buying and how much its gonna cost befor i do it.And what do u mean they had a thing against kazio? Whats kazio.

I think your making it seam a tad bit harder than it is. More people out there have skylines everyday, it's far from impossible just rule breaking and annoying I'm sure.

Kazio was a company out in Cali that was shut down due to some legal matters when they imported cars (they mostly imported skylines). There's plenty of info out there in regards to that mess.

There was another company around the same time as Kazio but located in Baltimore MD that imported cars for track use only. I MIGHT still have the link somewhere, but my other computer is...not really in one piece right now lol.

Try searching for the one in MD in google (sorry I don't so much have a name for you) - if i come across the link i'll be sure to PM it to you.

And good luck getting it properly insured, mainly because the JDM cars have never been crash tested. Your welcome to actually buy the car and have it in your possession, but there's a difference between owning and actually having it be daily driven/street driven.

They dont have the same crash beam and they dont have the same mandatory glass coatings for when it breaks. Good luck getting insurance to say yes.

There are federally legal skylines with DOT releases, but you will pay for them. Im sure you can sneak things in, but if you actually tell the truth to insurance companies they will never take one of those cars under their policy as a road driven vehicle.

So you swap over a few things basically to make it 100% legal? Or you could just get a front end swap and fulfill your jdm fanboyness?

Then pay for a DOT tech to certify it. That is if they dont want to crash test it. Then it comes down to the VIN. You can't insure a vehicle with a non-US vin for road driving conditions for the most part. Once again, DOT release is different.

OP the people responding to you like proven and pridenas have years of experience with the subject. the other people, most likely, have zero experience with the subject, and probably don't even have a real imported jdm car (like some people in this thread giving you good information do). also, the rule of thumb is if you have to ask how much you probably won't be able to afford one. it's going to be more than you are expecting, and there will always be extra fee's that are thousands alone. proven and pride are the ones giving you real information as apposed to the rest of the thread. so unless you have about 15-20 grand cash lying around, i doubt this will work for you. you can always buy one cheaper than that with no paperwork and figure it out yourself, but good luck. not trying to knock you man, just trying you give you a heads up.
