is sidewalk parking legal for bikes?

Riding around see some bikes parked in front of shops, stores, w/e on sidewalks. Thought they would have a ticket but I didn't see any.

No but you most likely won't have an issue unless you're completely blocking pedestrian traffic. Or a cop is in a dick mood.

I do it all the time and I have never had an issue.

I agree with the above post ^

I live in Philly... in northern liberties its legal to park scooters on the sidewalk. There are over 10 vespa's outside right now. I see bikes too.

If anyone ever tried to tell me that a 150CC scooter (motorcycle by law) can park there, but my bike cant. Well, I'd take it to court...

I saw one up on the sidewalk in front of one of the stores next to where I work the other day. My boss used to park right outside our store on his. I would only do it if it looks like it's gonna rain While I'm at work. but usually if there is a chance for rain I just take my car

i heard it was illegal i phila, however if the store owner has no issue with it so be it. they recently installed these bike spaces in center city where you pay the meter to park your bike ON the street. a quarter is like an hour, but these arent everywhere as of yet.

It's technically illegal but any block you drive up in Philly you will most likely see several bikes parked on the sidewalk, especially near Drexel and PENN. I was actually riding by PENN last Thursday and saw a PPA officer walk past 4 bikes parked on the sidewalk. He didn't even look at 'em. Also, Center City and some other areas of the City have specific motorcycle/scooter parking. Here is a list of the areas with it at the moment:

And a photo (not mine):

I saw these last week when I was downtown.... kinda like them. It's usually hard to park anywhere downtown since theres SO many pedestrians and you'd have to find a bakc alley somewhere... this makes things easier, but you have to be careful since the streets are pretty small and I'm worried of getting knocked over my cars with my bike parked there. But $.25 for 30 mins aint bad.

For the OP. I talked to a PPA guy and they said it's illegal for them to ticket your bike if you're parked against a wall of a private property... they say to make sure its out of the way of people walking. I always park my bike on the sidewalk at my Starbucks on Drexel's campus. I park it next to the bushes/bench and the PPA walks by there 4 times an hour and never ticketed me.

If you guys see my bike at that Starbucks, stop in for a free drink

I have used the bike parking downtown a few times. It works great and so far no issues. BUT, remember.. BRING QUARTERS! I had to park in a normal kiosk parking as we only had cash/cards last time. That's when I got that ticket, even though it was displayed in the window.

Is that the one on Walnut Street? Locust? Market? lol. I am down there from time to time. Went to Capogiro on Walnut between 39th and 40th.. twice in 1 hour, on Thurs :-X

34th and Chestnut, I usually only work nights so if you're around there at night and see a black 600RR out front, I'm there!

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks nhan - i'm king from north catholic btw, sup!

And those parking spaces are definitely nice. For anybody wondering where I saw the bikes on the sidewalk, was by Triumph in old city in between front and 2nd on chestnut.

I didn't say campus sidewalk, I said I park on Starbuck's sidewalk. Which is private property, not owned by Drexel. I dunno what Drexel does. if you're around the area we can ride.

I've definitely seen your bike before. I saw a few older cruisers park there next to the garage, and seen an older 90's sport bike there, I think Yamaha?
