breast cancer awareness is *insert explative*

so to make this fun to begin your post insert your finish to that sentence

- Breast Cancer awareness is a large abundance of small pellet like rabbit $hit

"Breast cancer has been transformed into a market-driven industry. It has become more about making money for corporate sponsors than funding innovative ways to treat breast cancer." - Health Studies researcher Samantha King, author of Pink Ribbons Inc.

my rant is an opinion (duh)
basically anyone who pays for a pink ribbon or has one of those tattas bands is a complete idiot and is doing nothing to help the problem underlying breast cancer. Long story short i know people close to me who have had this problem arise. As much as it has become a fad thing and has brought in an ass ton of money NONE of it is going to help patients with breast cancer or towards helping find a cure/cause etc. etc. Breast cancer awarenes is what it says it is ment for AWARENESS. so all of you idiots are doing is becoming a billboard for your women to get a mammogram or for a woman to remind other women to get one done. The companies that run this are an advertising and marketing juggernaut now because they profit off of selling ads for a terrible disease (ps while they say they are non profit programs everyone makes a salary, tax breaks are abundant and the rest is pushed back into bigger programs)

"National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). Pink ribbons abound and the message you keep hearing is, “Get Your Mammogram!” No mention is ever made in the official NBCAM materials of the need to find the causes of cancer so that we can prevent it. Not surprisingly, NBCAM was originally created by a drug company—now called AstraZeneca—that, in addition to producing breast cancer treatment drugs, also profited off the sale of an herbicide known to cause cancer. "

Disclaimer: no, i dont think people should not be aware of this i am just pointing out how overblown this program is. This is why i bancott any of the programs like save the tattas, stickers, fundraisers, and basically any programs that month has.

sorry for spelling/grammer rushed it in work

END.

Citation... stuff in quotes, yeah i didnt write it.

I've thought it is a joke for awhile now. Alot of money wasted on advertising that could be used to find a cure, better treatment, ect..

I agree... I had a family member that has breast cancer and I dont see any of those "products" helping her. She has even stated she is tired of seeing all the pink and the "awareness" crap. Its just a daily reminder to her that she has breast cancer. The majority of all the things sold to support breast cancer actually never do. Its all about money.

I hate when people are like, "yeah I'm trying to raise awareness that's why I wear all of this."

I get that they think they're helping but I bet at this point EVERYBODY is aware of breast cancer. How about instead of raising awareness, they raise money for a cure.

I'll look online to see what getting a small set of maybe 100 would cost.

Fact: men can get breast cancer too.

I don't agree with all of the fads/trends behind breast cancer awareness, but I do agree with the point that women, men and teens need to be aware of this and any other disease.

It's not just breast cancer that these promotions are happening for though. Maybe this came about because October was breast cancer awareness month. However, those rubber bracelets come in every color to represent all forms of disease awareness. The car magnets do too. Maybe it's just nice for those who have survived or are suffering or the family members of those who lost someone to see that people are aware - hopefully not just for the trend - and are actually getting screenings when necessary.

Either way, I don't usually contribute anything to anyone unless I know a majority of the donations are set to the real cause - not just the advertising and promotions.

i thought the same way but felt like a dick saying it, or wrongly accused of being sexist.

its just annoying now, especially when other cancers are ignored.

it really just seems like the popular thing to do, like livestrong bracelets, no one gives a **** about the cause, they just want to be like everyone else.

the breast cancer thing is ridiculous and annoying, you got pink can openers, magnets, stickers, football cleats, pink city lights.

i am willing to bet after all this **** no one gets checked for it anyway. i think the only useful thing is public service announcements explaining how to check yourself

how about a ribbon that says "check for lumps"? At least that has some damn information instead of "save the tatas"

the money spent advertising usually gets donated too. but hey, people have to make money right.

funny how many millions of dollars are raised and we cant cure a damn thing. we can put a ****ing pig heart in somebody and have somebody breath off of a machine but we cant cure anything. Jesus Christ we can clone animals!

it is very sad that with all the technology available we still dont have a cure, i really hope that a cancer cure (besides radiation and surgery) is discovered soon. Cancer is one of the most dreaded words in the world and to even think that it could someday be no big deal is a strong glimmer of hope.

I hope you don't read any of what was said above and think that none of us have compassion for people who are going through a battle with the disease. I think the general consensus here is that the random wearing of bracelets and bumper stickers is more like a trend and a 'who gives more of a crap' contest than it is a general concern for people who have the disease.

"Breast Cancer Awareness" has become nothing more than a selling point. Take a look at the new Sunchips bags for example. They're pink. F***, everything's pink now. Sure I bet some fraction of a cent will be donated to some cancer fund, but after it's all done guess who rakes in the extra money in sales during the 'promotion' and gets to keep that "We really give a s***, we're nice people" reputation and make bank on it? Sunchips. It's just good marketing... that's all this 'awareness' thing has become. It's the same as the popular buzzword "Green". It doesn't actually mean a damn thing except to the guys sitting around a conference table in an executive's office who are cashing in on the fake-care advertising campaigns. Personally, I think it sucks.
