Your Thought on an Really high mileage car
Would you still buy it? even the seller want an premium for it or would you avoid it? Since due to how crappy the economy is that people have been driving their cars to the dirt instead buying a new one since they can't afford it. I am noticing that more and more cars i see that people that are selling their ride has extremely high mileage and they still want a pretty penny. Whats your thought......Sorry kinda bored ![]()

some cars can not be found with less for less then a obscene amount of money...
My final judgement would be left to which car, but I have dreamt buying 200k cars, but the then they always turn to nightmares of maintenance fees.

I'd do it, if I planned on freshening up the motor, like new rings, piston, deck, hone, bore the block and stuff like that...

My opinion on the subject:
It really depends on the general and routine maintenance that has been performed to the car. For example my first car a 1999 Nissan Altima that was a hand-me-down from my parents from my sister (was originally her car). We ended up junking it at ~195K miles not because the drive train was sloppy, but because the body and suspension were beyond repair. This car saw a year of my father delivering news-papers out of it everyday (at least a 100 miles daily loaded with newspapers). Then it made it through about 5 years and 100K of my bonehead sister beating on that thing. Finally came my 17th birthday when it was handed down to me with ~155K on the odometer. Let me tell you first and foremost I absolutely despised/hated/wanted to destroy this car; it was the bane of my existence. I wanted nothing more to be behind the wheel when something punctured a hole in the oil pan while I had the pedal welded to the floorboard with my foot. This way I could be there to enjoy the pain and suffering that the car would have endured during its last moments alive. However, that day never came. I did my best, I used to downshift with the Auto transmission, routinely bounce it off of the rev limiter, burnouts, snow/rain drifts in parking lots, drag racing against myself up Warwick Turnpike loaded with 500 lbs of newspapers at 4 in the morning while working for my parents, and lest not forget rally driving in the woods of Sussex County, you name it I did it. The car simply would not die, it wouldn't even hiccup dammit! It was the most dead reliable thing I have ever been in, owned, or used. The car saw oil changes religiously at 3K miles and nothing but Fram and the best Walmart Brand 10-30 conventional oil two dollars and thirty cents could buy went into White-Lighting as I more affectionately called it. I changed the air filter twice, and the plugs and wires once throughout the life of the car. It has always been my thought that the repair manual in the glove box was written for a reason, by people way smarter then I will ever be (even if I'm going to be an engineer just like them), and that if followed to the letter your car should outlast you; or at least longer then you could ever possibly want it to as in my case. I still don't know how I would feel about purchasing a car with such high miles off of someone though. I just don't think I could stand knowing that someone has been with the vehicle through and well after its glory days. /end story of the "good ol' days" in Highschool.

lol.
yeah, thats my main concern about the maintenance on the car with that much miles and have no clue how the owner taken care of it also. My impala is rolling 190k but i did all the maintenance and so on. planning to do an over haul when i get an bigger garage. Hello L67 ![]() maybe i'm getting old but i remember back in the days (lol) when you could get an decent car for 500 bucks with 130k....now their like 1-2k for the same car. Times has sure changed...

Mileage is the last thing I look at when buying a car. But then again, I never buy a car that I can't at least break even on if I ended up having to scrap it. I've owned a few cars over 200k. Most between 100 and 150 though. I really just look at the overall condition. You can tell if it was taken care of, and I can usually tell if someone is trying to hide something.

who cares about milage... if the car runs properly and has been taken care of its only a number... ive purchased plenty of beaters with high milage and they always last along time if u do proper checks before you purchase.. right now i have a jeep with 215k on it and it runs/shifts like a champ.. will hold for a very long time..

If you dont know the person stay away, unless your going to rebuild or swap. Even then it would depend on the type of the car, a full frame car would hold up better than a sub-frame im assuming, etc.

Depends on the engine and where you live. I have seen toyota and honda motors that push 300k with routine and preventative maintance. Harsh winters can really take a toll on a car as well including the suspension and axles. Granted. I think you would be hard pressed to find anything besides the ordinary DD with that kind of miles.
