trying to get truck started

i've got one of those trigger things you connect to the starter and battery... however, i can't remember what part of the solenoid you connect it to.

it would seem redundant to connect red to red since there is already a direct line going from the battery to the starter.

from my understanding, you simply turn the key to the on position and pull the trigger on the tool, correct?

you need to connect to the starter solnoid wire. Its a smaller wire usually.

connect starter switch trigger to 12v source and to solenoid.

Turn key to on.

Press trigger.

Why are you doing this btw, is something fried that your solenoid isnt getting power?

its the 69 chevy. either there is an issue with a wire somewhere along the line or the connection isn't being made for the trans being in park.

both are highly likely since the last owner did a hack job with the wiring and the trans is not stock.

i saw the smaller wire... so that to the battery and trigger. i thought so, didn't want to take a chance. wasn't sure if it would go to the red or black bit.

What kind of trigger thing? Are you talking about a push button like on a s2000?

Have you tested for 12v's at the starter when someone is trying to crank the motor over?

thats when its nice a to have wiring diagram, but for as old as the truck is, and he already said someone hacked it up it might not be valid at this point.

lol, same issue as when you turn the key. power drops out of everything. tac goes to 0, turn the key (or pull the trigger) and the tac drops to the needle.

on top of that the wire got hot enough to burn me

sounds like you have a short to ground on that circuit.

Take a multimeter on the continuity setting and put one lead to a known power source, then put the other lead on the wire that got hot. If you get a beep then you probably have a short.

Be careful with trying to start the truck, that wire could catch on fire pretty easy if its a small gauge. It might be a good idea to put a inline fuse on it until you find the problem just for safety reasons.
