stocks

I'm looking at getting into some stocks while **** is in the dumps.. like AIG and stuff like that that had a high share, but are now really low.

I'm not sure who to talk to about this, or what other stocks would be good options to take.

haha... nobody knows, otherwise it would be really easy to get rich. everyone has their opinions but there is no right or wrong, or no way to tell at least. all you can do is start researching and putting in the time to learn the basics and then the specifics. you could find a broker if thats what you're looking for here, but again they dont really know either... they just take educated guesses like we do.

www.motleyfool.com has some free stuff you can access which is really interesting
google mad money jim cramer to get to his site... he's got a show on cnbc and the site as well... some people love him and some hate him but he's pretty wild and entertaining

not sure where else to point you off the top of my head, but definitely take baby steps... things are really wacky these days.

yeah, mainly looking for brokers... my mom and i were talking yesterday about stocks and i brought up AIG which is around $3 a share and was at $70... if we put in a combined 1k into AIG we've got the potential to make some good money. And if AIG tanks, well we only lost 1k

Exactly my thoughts. I got in AIG @ 2.20 and FNM @ .90. Hoping this bailout pulls them up but I'm probably going to just hold them for the long.

IMO if you want to get into aig or any financial, wait for them to go up monday and then prepare for a slump as most day traders will try to get out @ highest and buy in the slump. Obviously i can't guarantee this will happen, but it's what i expect.

I must agree with Troll, if you aren't educated on the matter then leave it to the experts unless you feel like taking a crap-shoot. I think people should invest in Mutuals and high yield savings and money markets until this blows over. Hell, even ladder out some CD's. There are options out their instead of the quick dollar and right now IMO they sound a hell of lot better!

I would stay away from AIG.. They now OWE the gov't money for bailing them out and then they squandered 500 grand for a retreat to some ritzy resort in Ca for no reason, had another planned for this weekend too, thank god they decided that would be a BAD idea.. I think they are gonna fold if they don't stop spending on stupid useless ****, thats just my perception on AIG tho.. But Investing now isn't a bad idea.. just be wary who you buy shares in is all. and don't let the broker try to push you into something.. Like troll said.. Do your research.

this was my exact thought scapegoat. I was looking into apple. Ive been following them for a little while now and they fell about 4 weeks ago (just like everyone else) but only saw them down just a little a few days since. Im thinking about waiting til november or so to invest in them, when parents start buying their students macs

leave it up to a broker or just stick it in a fund.
i doubt a broker will even talk to you with a $1000 bankroll.

I used ING sharebuilder. It's basically an investment program where instead of dealing trying to purchase shares of stock you schedule investments. I recently dumped some money into APPLE and it takes the money I transferred into that account and "invests" it into Apple.

I don't know a ton about stocks but I figured I get my feet wet with a couple bills on Apple.

financial advisor ftw!! ive only been investing for about 3 months at 700 a week and im doing pretty damn good for such a **** economy!

def get an financial advisor if you dont have hours on hours to watch the market. FA's are good because they dont make money unless you make money...so you know they are out to get you some money.

I believe at least some FA's make a commission on every purchase and sale, so they make money either way. They do make more when you make more though...
