Just a friendly reminder here for all of us gear-heads out there. I bought my DD about a month and a half ago, and had been hearing some grinding in the rear brakes, so i decided to do them today. This is what I came across on my passenger rear brakes.

So this is just a friendly reminder for all of us to be safe, this could have EASILY killed me, someone I love, or a random driver because of a shop that sold this vehicle to me with brakes in this type of shape without checking them first. ALWAYS Check work done by others! I am taking responsibility for this, but just imagine what could have happened if the rotor separated while at high speeds and launched a brake pad. In the first picture you can see it already sliding around on the rotor, hence why its out of the bracket.

So to wrap it up, just be safe and when in doubt, check it out!

one of the reasons im kinda glad i got out of being a mechanic. its scary to see the absolute unsafe junk people drive. and then when you tell them about it they just say "oh, well do i really need to do it right this second?" i had a guy pull in once with 3 out of 5 lug studs broken off. and he refused to replace them because it was "good enough" always always give your car a occasional once over...

i had a similar thing happen to my car a few years back but it was the brake pad that separated from the metal backing. thank god i wasnt driving it was just at my friends shop. thankfully it happened to him on his lot and not on the road somewhere.

This is why I pull all my cars apart as soon as I buy them and do a solid once over, fresh fluids/filters, ect.

It is amazing what maintenance/repairs people will put off for a few bucks. Safety is priceless.
