Your thoughts about the motorcycle safety course

I started it yesterday at the Jamison location which is at Bucks County Institute of Technology on 263.

I'm going into it with absolutely no riding experience at all, most of my class either has a bike already or has ridden before.

First day was 2.5 hours and we did all in class work, watching videos and answering questions from a booklet.

Saturday and Sunday we are riding rain or shine.

So far the class is okay, learned mostly about safety and controls and stuff like that, I'm sure I'll learn a ton more come saturday.

For the people that have no experience on a bike, they are great. Gets you some good experience in a controlled environment. The insurance discount is a bonus as well.

Even for those who have been on bikes have a chance at learning something new, and there is always the ERC, Experience Riders Course, which I'm sure a lot of people out there could stand to take.

The class is designed for people who have never ridden before. I took it at 18 with 7 years of riding under my belt already, and it was DEFINITELY a worthwhile course. Pay attention, youll definitely learn some good sh*t.

I took their Experienced Rider Class. It was fun and the instructors were cool. I did learn some skills.

I took the basic course and finished about a week ago... I'd recommend it for the random tips that you learn and the do's and dont's. I'm going to take the advanced one as soon as I can... The discount on insurance is a great benefit as well.

I agree. I think you should get your permit upon completion of the basic course, and your lisence at the completion of the advanced course. The permit now is too easily obtained, and gives the person with it too much freedom. Lots of guys just get their permits each year and never bother with getting the license.

Day 2 finished today, was the first time I rode a motorcycle. Going slow sucks but I started getting used to going < 5mph and staying straight.

The bikes are SMALL and my legs are kind of sore actually.

Like others said you always take something away from it everyone picks up bad habits. The riding parts were so so dragging peg on the 125s they gave us was fun also. And who ever said getting a permit is to easy when I started riding you got it at a notary payed your ten bucks and where good for the year. I think you should have to take the written then the msf coarse to get your license no riding in the middle. I also think we should have a tiered licenses but that just me really dont care if someone gets 1000cc bike and kills themselves but I do care when they plow into someone else to do so.

Yeah definitely free.
Seems like it's going to be easy, the figure 8 might be difficult, haven't tried it yet, I think that will be Saturday.

I have the written test tomorrow.

Figure 8 was the only spot i had trouble with during my test. During practice, no problem. Test day, i put my foot down once. Its definitely an easy course.. nobody who behaves themselves should ever fail it.

I had an 80 something year old guy in my class with his 17yr old grandson. Grandsons first bike was a gixxer 1000. (theres a great idea). Old dude was so senile, theres NO WAY he shouldve passed, but did. For the braking test, where you accel to a certain speed, pass the line, and have to brake... he never even touched his brakes. Sailed right through. Guess it wasnt enough points to fail him, but if i were that instructor I couldnt in good conscience let him operate a motorcycle on the open road. I was literally dumbfounded when the instructor said everyone in the class passed.

Saw the kid a few months later on his gixxer... it had been down on both sides. No suprises there.
