Thinkin about selling my car (volvo s80) i should have about 4k. Any opinions on what i should pick up? Im debating on going the suv route for comfort or going sports car/ tuner kind of deal. Any and all opinions welcome.

never put money down on a lease - negotiate on the price of the car instead.

remember that money down on a lease is instantly lost.

Since the dealership is actually selling the car to the bank, you CAN negotiate on that sale price. That is where you can get your best deal.

leasing a car is stupid.

there are plenty of good cars to own for under 4k

For a tuner, yes, leasing is stupid.

If someone wants a NEW daily every 3 to 4 years (we do 3.5 on my wifes lease) with FULL warranty roadside assistance and all the latest and greatest safety equipment & electronic goodies it's perfect.
Lease candidate criteria.
1) Accept that you're always gonna have a monthly payment. (insurance is a bit higher on a lease too)
2) Accept that any mods you do must be UNDONE before turning it in (best to leave it be, it's your DD )
3) Realize that you're going to need to be BRAND loyal as a lease customer to get the best deals over and over.
4) Never put more than first payment and titling fees down at the inception of the first lease. (previously stated, by Bender I think.) After that dealers usually waive disposition fees and first payments due to lease loyalty.
5) If anyone tells you it's not REALLY your car, ask them if theirs is paid off yet.
Yeah, it's basically renting. But two three year leases will usuall be less money for the amount of CAR you get vs. a 5 or 6 year purchase.
Then theres the fact that after a purchased car is paid off you can get a SURPRISE maitainance or repair bill that's more than two or three payments on a lease....
Different strokes for different folks

Besides, us EVIL() salesguys love seeing repeat customers every 3-4 years instead of 6 years plus
Also, NEVER EVER do a lease if you think you're gonna buy it at the end.
99% of the time that will cost WAAAYYYYY more than if you just bought it.

Excellent advice - also make sure to talk to your tax guy as some of the more creative ones can make it a write off.
